Here's one for you. If Hinkley was considered a nutjob for shooting ronald Reagan to show his love for Jodi Foster, isn't "God" a nutjob for killing his son to show he "so loved" the world?

Why would you even try to compare the two. Abraham is a story in the bible. A story that no one can prove is actually true. Andrea Yates is a NUT JOB who murdered FIVE innocent children by holding them down under water in a bathtub. If there is such a place as hell, Andrea Yates deserves to rot there for all eternity. I hope the B I T CH hears her babies crying every time she closes her eyes. There was nothing religious about what she did. She acted out her crime for very selfish reasons, and she deserves no better than to die the same way!!

Andrea Yates is insane and she was not following God's command! God stopped Abraham but Andrea didn't really hear the word of the true and living God. She has a chemical imbalance and her husband and Dr.'s knew it and I blame them for not having her back on medications and monitored in her care of the children!

Andrea Yates was the victim of an unqualified psychiatrist who believed that the only treatment for schizophrenia was massive doses of drugs and then to yank her off of these psycho-meds cold turkey with no backup. It is no wonder that her conviction has been overturned and a new trial ordered. The person that need to be put in jail in order to protect the public are her psychiatrist and her ex-husband who abandoned her. With Andrea the devil was at work. With Abraham God was at work. God succeeded because he knew the heart of Abraham. Satan failed (he fails at everything that he does because he is already condemned) because he has no heart.

This is probably a good question, but I have to admit that I do not know anything about Andrea Yates. On that basis, my response is disqualified. As for Abraham, his sanity, or lack of it, rests on whether or not there really is a God and whether or not any such God would actually command what Abraham was told to do.

Are you trying to justify what that babykiller did??? What about the woman who microwaved her newborn because, as she said, God told her to? Or the woman who cut off her three month old baby's arms? What about the mother who silently gave birth in the bathroom at work, stuffed the baby into a plastic garbage bag, and put it in the trunk of her car in below zero weather? They all claimed the same thing. They also all claimed insanity. There is no excuse for harming innocent children. People who do those kinds of things shouldn't be educated and allowed to work on the taxpayer's dime. They're not sane, they're not healthy, and they're not human. Whoever can harm a baby, much less their own children in such an extreme form, should just be put to death. Baby killers are not needed in this world.

Abraham wasn't insane! He was a manipulative ******! Apparently, the social code at the time was attempted murder, or flat-out murder, if you claimed 'God told me too' was OK. You just had to know what to say to others more naive than you. If Andrea wasn't insane, she'd know how to manipulate society like Billy Graham.
Unfortunately for her, in today's world, some historical lessons still manage to get through.

God didn't allow Isaac to be killed is the first difference. Andrea Yates had a history of mental problems and was in and out of mental institutions before she killed her children. Her husband was a complete jerk who kept having kids with her even though he knew she was unstable. Then she had to stay home and home school them. That could drive a sane person crazy. Lastly, the church she belonged to (Church of Christ) actually believe they are the only true Christians just because of the name of their church. I know this because I'm in Texas and my mother-in-law goes to that church.

Yeah your right...let her out...have some more kids..kill them too...o-well...I guess God will deal with it right??? Abraham should have been strung up and so should Andres Yates. Anyone who kills a person who can't defend themselves should be done away with.

You're missing the point of the story. All the OTHER gods worshiped at the time demanded child sacrifice regularly. JHVH was making a statement that He was a different, better God than say Dagon or Baal. All that He wanted was faith, not sacrifice.
