I've tried general family practice doctors but they haven't been able to help so I'm thinking of making an appointment with an Internist to see if they can help? Are they able to deal with issues like mine?

If they're a good doctor they can help... It depends on what's wrong. My old internal medicine doc was FABULOUS!!! I saw him for most of my gyn related visits, depression & anxiety, allergies, and reflux. I had no major illnesses. Everything was treated with prescriptions, and and some testing. All in one office, with a minimal amount of hassle. And, he was smart and sweet. He retired... *sigh* And since, I've not found another doc I felt was capable of dealing with everything at once. Which, honestly has more to do with my new doctor's incompetent office staff... I digress. As long as you're relatively healthy, and you're not suffering from a rare/serious condition an internist can help. Even if that help consists of testing, which tells him to refer you to another specialist... If you hate them, or they don't seem to be doing the job, go see a specialist. Anyway, yes they are qualified to help. Good luck

While an internist can probably help you with your digestive problems, you would be better off seeing a gastro-enterologist.

Anxiety issues are a totally different field so you need to see a psychiatrist or psychologist for that...at least until you are regulated on a medication and past any counseling you may need. Once you are "stable", the family doctor can then handle the maintenance of your anxiety (ordering medication) requiring only a yearly visit back to the psychiatrist or psychologist (if approved by him/her).

I will now go for the next stage DUAL CARRIAGE way, probably at the weekend, with my husband accompanying me first then the solo drive, if successful the final stage of driving on motorway
