People sleep with their mouths open when their noses are stopped up, so their mouths dry out - this condition is called sleep apnea.
Once cause of sleep apnea is allergies. When allergies are the cause of dry mouth, you need to unclog your nasal passages with an antihistamine, decongestant, or a combination of both. Clartin-D might be a good product to try out since it contains both antihistamine and decongestant. Its available without a prescription.
If allergies are not causing the problem, you may have a situation where the soft part of your pallet seals off your nasal passages when sleeping. This condition can be a large health risk. The problem can sometimes be corrected by sleeping in a different position (usually side), but sometimes people need surgery if the problem cannot be corrected by changing sleeping the position.
