To be honest I am a little unhappy about the diagnosis.Oral Thrush is rare in healthy individuals unless it has been triggered by a course of antibiotics, or there are immune system issues. Did your doctor take a swab from your mouth, or did he just make the diagnosis clinically? It is not caused by allergies!
If it is proven thrush then Daktarin or nystatin used locally are the standard treatments. I think if you are not settling the first thing to do is return to your GP for a confirmation of the diagnosis.

Oral thrush is usually caused by candida yeast. While meds will eventually help, the best thing to do is follow the candida yeast flush diet. Basically, no yeasts, no molds, no sugars, no vinegars. Add to that a probiotic formula--the best kinds are those that need refrigeration. There are several websites that may help you. Also, if you go to a Whole Foods, or Henry's, or Wild Oats store, the people in the nutritional supplements area can be very helpful. Good Luck

I've had it before when I've been on antibiotics and have been exceptionally run down. I would hold an ice cube in your mouth to numb your tongue and cool the sore and swelling sensations. Also drink plenty, and cut down on sweets and sugary drinks because that'll only make things worse (thrush feeds on sugar). Other than that you're just going to have to wait for it to ease with the meds.

Daktarin applied twice a day works. Gentian violet 1% applied 3 times a day with cotton also works. Take soft, bland foods like yogurt and banana.

My son used to get that when he was still a breastfeeding baby. They gave him something...this was 25 yr ago, I'll try to remember. I think it was called Gentian Violet. Google that and see if it's what you need. It's an old school remedy that really works. It gave him purple lips though! HA! You can probably get it over the counter.
Good Luck

My step father used to suck on hard candy or lollipops to help ease his thrush... it's uncomfortable though, as you know. The meds should work within 48 hours and you should feel better within 72. You can also try Sucrets, they are throat lozenges for sore throats but they have a numbing agent in them that may help your mouth as well.
He always said ice cream was the best help though ( =
Hope you feel better!!!

i didnt have an oral thrush before but we give anti-fungal to patients such as nystatin or amphotericin lozenges. You can gargle saline water which helps ease the pain.

I believe that thrush is actually a yeast infection. If you rinse your mouth in a weak vinegar solution it will help. Yeast can't grow in an acidic environment.
