Definitely try to get it online; it is much cheaper. I don't
know your age; usually if you are under 25, the rental
companies hassel you; like making you put a larger
hold on your credit card, etc.
I have had good luck with Priceline.com; they show you
cheap prices, and if that's not cheap enough for you,
they will let you name your own price. If you get a car
through an airport, there is as much as $l0 or more a
day in airport tax, though. Alamo and Budget don't
hold extra money on your credit card.

Its expensive to walk up and rent a car.
The best thing to do is reserve a car online or by phone. There is no cancellation charges. If you dont show up , no love loss.
So its good to Book in Advance. Helps if you have AAA for a discount
Good Luck

It's almost always more expensive as a walk-in. If you have to rent a car, absolutely make the reservation online!

I have found it better to reserve in advance. You won't be stuck only with what they have available. On a side note, it is always worth it to join their frequent renter program. This is available with every car rental company and they reward you for using them. They also offer various discounts and will email/mail you coupons. Another benefit for joining their program (which costs you nothing), is they usually have a VIP line set up for card holders. This will allow you to get into a shorter line in some cases, they have the car waiting for you when you get there, so you don't have to get in line at all since they have your information on file and you just reserve ahead of time. If time = money, this is definitely worthwhile. I use Thrifty, they tend to be slightly cheaper than the others and their program offers a car ready for you at the scheduled time of pick up (no lines) and for every 10 days you rent, you get one for free, which is equivalent to 10% off over time. Good luck!

usually cheaper online but if it is near end of day and they have a lot of cars or even one on the lot they will want to get rid of it. just look up price on line and see what they offer it at and if you have to walk in just tell them that you saw it online for for x amount and can they match it.

Renting without a reservation. I always rent mine through Priceline. I rarely pay more than $15/day that way. http://travel.priceline.com/default.asp?rdr=2

Call a travel agent. They get better rates and they cost you NOTHING. Get tickets, hotel, car and all in one package and save even more.
