In reading over your two statements above, I think he or she had better be doing the latter! When a person is ready to leave this planet for the next world, which incidentally is eternal, they had better be certain their atheist or non-believing viewpoint is the way it actually is in this universe!! How can they really be certain that the Christians have been so wrong about an 'after-life' and the existence of a loving, but just Almighty God, waiting to judge their actions while on the earth.
When this mortal soul passes away some day, and hopefully that will be in the distant future, for there is much, much work yet still to do for my Lord, the only question that will be of any importance to me is: What have I done with the person of Jesus Christ? Believed in Him or rejected Him?!

I know I am forgiven, and I know where I am going, but that doesn't stop me from being a bit scared of the actual process of death. I suppose it's natural.
Yes, the important question will be, for the Christian, "Did I do my best to live my life in a way that is pleasing to Him?"
I wonder, will the atheist's last thought be "God, I hope I was right!"

I'm a bornagain Christian. The most important question in a person life is "If you died today do you know for sure you will go to heaven? The first thing a person must realize to have eternal life is there present condition, a sin nature. The Bible says in Roman 5:12 Wherefore,as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned. Romans 6:23 a the first part of the verse says "For the wages of sin is death....So what we have earned or deserve for our sin is eternal separation from God in a place called Hell. Revelation 20:14-15 says "And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire. But the good news is the second part of Romans 6:23says but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Salvation is a free gift there nothing we can do to earn eternal life.Ephesians 2:8-9 says For by grace are ye saved through faith;and that not of yourselves,it is the gift of God.Not of works, lest any man should boast. The last thing we must recieve that free gift by simply;any place at any time just pray and accept that gift of salvation! Romans 10:9-13 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and thou shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness;and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith.Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all the call upon him. FOR WHOSOEVER SHALL CALL UPON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED!! I am so thankful for my salvation!!

You are absolutely correct. Many people are not so fortunate as to have the chance to ask that last question before they die. Some people die so suddenly that they don't have chance to even think about where they will spend eternity, let alone ask any questions. That's why it's so important to get these things figured out before you die, so that death won't catch you off guard. None of us knows exactly when we die. Rather than focusing on the trivial stuff, as you mentioned in your question, we ought to be thinking of what will happen to us after we die and come to a peace about that before it's too late. As for me, I have absolutely no fear of death because I know beyond a shadow of a doubt that I will be in Heaven with Jesus.

The main ones for me would be if I am forgiven, am I ready, I know I am but I think it would still be there, because when your dying there an't no turning back, your life is over here on earth and your ready to meet your maker..
Am I ready?
Have I done the best I could?
did I live my life the way I should?
did I live my life for Christ?
I am sure there would be a number of questions that goes through our minds, but I think the main ones would be am I ready to meet my maker, and am I truly forgiven..

i have pondered a similar question myself. should we be more concerned with weather or not we lived a good, virtuous life, or should we be concerned as to weather or not we had faith in god and jesus and all that? the answer, from religious people is almost invariably that it doesnt matter what life you live so long as you accept jesus. to be honest, if this is true, i do not wish to follow any god who damns the virtuous to an eternity of pain and suffering.

I want to know what are the best moments in Gods life because that will take an eternity to hear and then I'll have eternity with God in the glory of what makes Him happy.
Just like "Mary" (Martha & Mary) ... sitting at his feet enthralled in what he has to say.

I suppose at the moment of death, the only thing that really matters is that you lived your life without bringing harm to others and that you did the best you could for your family.
When everything else is stripped away, that's about all you have left.

The essence of life after death is seeing God in all His splendor and glory. Everyone will be happy to see Him but how much, will depend on how will prepared ourselves in this life.
