Technicaly it's not an open wound if all you needed was a few bandaids. I think the cuts should be ok though because the vote is out on wether you should let a cut "breathe" or not. I'm guessing the cast will be on for a good long time and the cuts will close by the time it comes off, maybe slower than if they were exposed.

It really depends on the cuts and when you are following up with the doctor. If they are superficial cuts or abrasions that don't need sutures or staples, you can be in a cast. Usually they will cast you for 3 weeks and do xrays in or out of cast, check the fit of the cast and possibly recast. I would expect you to be checked out of cast with the cuts. This is probably a case of not casting being a greater risk to you than casting with the cuts. You need to be especially careful to watch for swelling in your fingers with a long arm cast. Symptoms besides obvious swelling include numbness, tingling, cold fingers and pins and needles. If any of those happen you need to prop your arm up at the elbow with your fingers up and start wiggling them, place ice on the cast at the site of your fracture. If after a half an hour, your symptoms don't resolve, you need to call you doctor or go to the ER to have it evaluated. You also need to keep you cast dry, not pick out any of the padding and not stick anything down in it. Good Luck

If you get that local infected-feeling
(with or without a fever, etc), then return to where they put the cast on, and they can cut some small windows, in the cast (only), over your cuts.
or...if you think the likelihood of the cuts not healing without a problem is consistent with your medical history, you can request this more sooner than later.

this will irritat the skin a bit yes due to the ridgitity of the cast but you can just put a dry was cloth and attach it to the cast as to prevent irritation

if it feels painful in that area, or you begin to run a fever go back to the doctor, but you should be fine!
