I had a 93' 4.0 liter that averaged about 14 mpg with city and highway driving. I now have a 94' with the 5.2L that seems to get about the same. Just highway driving I get about 16-18 mpg. And both are 4X4 with the NP249 transfer case, which means they are more less "all wheel drive" and 3.73 gears. I also run 30"x9.5"x15" tires which a about 2 inches larger than stock. The main thing like any vehicle is how you drive it.

Depends on which engine you have, and how you drive.

My 96 Grand Cherokee averages 24-26mpg. With the 4.0L inline 6 engine.
