It is great that you speak up for yourself. You need to set up boundaries for your friends and family members. You deserve to be treated with love and respect.

Done in the right way, a confrontation with someone like that can feel good and may actually do some good, but I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for that family member to actually change their behavior.
People like that are often acting out because of their own insecurities and putting down other people makes them feel bigger. You and I know that's not really the end result, but to them it seems to work since no one calls them on it.
Good first step. Now if you really want to help that person, talk to them in private and tell them calmly how it makes you feel when they behave badly and how it affects you and others that they do this to. Getting some outside help for them can't hurt either.

it sounds like you expressed to him how you are fed up with his behavior. you are not just going to sit by & let him treat you how ever he wants, you demanded some respect. i dont see any thing wron with it at all. i'm sure some of the other family members are glad someone finally took a stand. i say: hats off to you!!

You did good. My ex-husband is like that. He will pop off at the mouth and say the meanest things and then it's like well that's just "J" for you. Just because a person does it all the time does not make it acceptable.

You did the right thing, know he knows that he can't go around treating you like that. Good for you for having the courage to stand up to him. Its sounds as though its about time someone put him in his place.

You did exactly right. If the other family members did the same, they would be better off.
