Straight up, the Canon and Nikon are the best. The Sony Alpha is absolute crap so dont even go there. The Fuji S3 Pro is pretty good when it comes to wedding photography because of it's ability to produce photo's at jpeg quality with a high dynamic range if you don't want to have to deal with RAW images. I personally use Nikon because that's what I prefer. The difference between Nikon dslrs produce more noise at higher ISOs than Canons do but the Canons produce more chromatic noise. From what I have found from testing both cameras side by side (both roughly the same resolution etc) is that even though the Nikon produces more noise at high ISO, it still captures more detail and noise can be removed with some advanced noise removal software. Having said that, it's just nitpicking because the difference between the two brands is neglagible. The only reason I use Nikon is because that's what I'm used to. Canon uses are more familiar with Canons. If you were to ask me which is the best, I would say go to a local dealer and try both and then choose based on which one you find easier to use. Hope that helps. If you would like me to go into a little more detail on any of this, feel free to email me. My address is on my website - www.straightshots.co.nz

Just a little side note here - it's amazing how people like to make assumptions (like rdenig) without first doing the research. I assume rdenig was the one who gave me the thumbs down. Do some research man. Check out the cameras side by side. Take photographs in all conditions, view them at 100% on a screen and God forbid, maybe even print them at different scales. View them side by side. Even ask other peoples' opinions on them and then, only then, come back and cast your view. Otherwise, keep your uneducated opinions to yourself as they are of no help to anyone. I've done the research. Where's yours?

All are good quality. My overall impressions:

Canon and Nikon would probably be the leaders, especially if you consider their selection of lenses, accessories, and support. This is probably the choice of most 35mm professional photographers and enthusiasts. Canon currently is the only one with a full-frame sensor (out for some time now), but Nikon may not be that far behind in responding.

Fujifilm: I love this company as a film company since I use a lot of Velvia film. Their cameras are high-end and high performing and you can get some high resolutions from their best offerings. But I'm under the impression that their lens and accessory offerings are not as large as Canon/Nikon's.

Sigma has taken their own approach and incorporated Foveon technology...very nice, but not quite accepted by the mainstream yet.

Olympus: I haven't been keeping up with them as a dSLR company. I tend to think they are more aimed at consumers rather than professionals, but I could be wrong.

Sony: High markup in paying for the 'Sony' brandname, and they tend to use a lot of Sony proprietary components. They tend to come up with a lot of consumer-friendly features that I'm not sure anyone asked for, but they are innovative. Success of new Alpha series remains to be seen. Quality is not bad.

Your photography skill, not the brand, is going to be the main contributor to color quality.

Canon and Nikon are two of the best brands when it comes to Digital SLRs. It all depends on the ammount of money you are looking to by. My Nikon D200 cost about $1500 plus the cost of lenses and accessories. Canons can run pretty high too. When it comes down to it they are both about even, but Canon offers more add-ons than Nikon. I would suggest Nikon for the simplicity of the camera, but if it came down between all of the brands you mentioned, these two would be my picks.

All consumer digital cameras are much the same. It's not what you take pictures with, but the pictures you take. It always amazes me, this fixation with brands. After all, no one asked Vincent Van Gogh what brushes or make of paint he used, did they? Canon and Nikon are always said to be 'the best' (they are no different at consumer level - pro cameras are different) - it's amazing how people are taken in By advertising.

When I went shopping for a new digital camera I had the same questions. I found a fantastic site that reviews all the brands in plain English - I highly recommend it.

Go ahead and get the one you want. With the same megapixel and same sensor size, they are the same camera. You could not see the difference in the lenses and those would be the only differences.
