Talking about conservation of natural resources, isnt it time that we started thinking about the generations to follow us. Will they have fuel to survive or will it turn out to be a scene from Mad Max.

If current car cos were limited to smaller engines to save on fuel, would that be a start to resolving the problem? or would the Rolls Royces, Aston Martins, Ferraris, Maseratis, Lamborghinis, Bentleys, Bugattis, Maybachs, Hummers apart from 4 wheel guzzlers become relics overnite

Improved fuel efficiency for cars would help a lot with both global warming and dependence on imported oil.

But, you don't want to regulate engine size, you want to regulate fuel efficiency directly. Something around 35 miles per US gallon, applied to all noncommercial vehicles (right now the US standard is 27.5, only for passenger cars) would be about right, very achievable. Let the manufacturer choose how to get that.

What about buses and trucks? Without those big, diesel guzzling trucks your local grocery store would have empty shelves in less than a week! When the cost of oil goes high enough, alternatives like bio fuel and electric cars will become economically competitive and you will see them everywhere.

"Johnny B"s answer, aside from the truly disgusting hate-mongering, is way off base. While it is certainly true that the earth recycles carbon, the process does not happen anywhere near the rate required to keep us supplied with oil at the rate we're using it - unless you can afford to wait a few hundred million years! For our purposes, fossil fuels are non-renewable. Once they are gone, they are gone.

I'm curious as to who died and put you in charge of my personal choices (or any one else other than yourself). If you want to limit your cars to 1.6 liter engines, please feel free to do so. But, it is beyond arogance to assume you know what is best for me.
