Mine would be Anthony Bourdain (sp?) and Tyler Florence. (he's sexy too) I really like them all except for Bobby Flay (a little too cocky for me) and Sandra Lee- I just can't get into watching her and Emeril ( a little too overrated and I heard his food in his restaurant sucks) Of course I love Paula Deen, Rachael's ok, and I like the dude from Good Eats, can't think of his name.

I agree, Julia Childs is the backbone of American cooking. The funny thing is I couldn't watch her on t.v. Almost every time my dad was watching you could see flies landing all over the food she was making. And her voice kinda irritated me but she's lovely.. or was =]

Alton Brown (he's the dude from Good Eats)! I have a feeling that if you sat down to an Alton cooked meal, it wouldn't be as flashy as other chef's meals, but it would be, well, darned good eats!
I love his sense of humor, and he is as much fun in person as he seems on TV (this is based on the minute or so I got to talk with him during a booking signing a couple of years ago.) I like learning the science behind cooking and baking, and I loved the "Feasting on Asphalt" show, too.
I agree about Emeril; I just don't get it, and the recipes I've tried of his from the Food Network weren't spectacular. I admire Sandra Lee's success after hearing about her upbringing on her Chefography spot, but I don't consider her much of a cook since she uses so much pre-made stuff. She's more about the entertaining aspect than cooking, in my opinion.
I also like Anthony Bourdain and enjoy his books. He rocked when he was a guest judge on Top Chef.
Happy Cooking and Happy Eating!

I have to agree with you on Emeril. I like his energy, but his style gets a little old after a while. I love watching Alton Brown from "Good Eats"....a lot of really interesting factoids in there, and I love the fact that he doesn't try to cram a seven course dinner into a half-hour show. Whenever hosts do that, they're basically just showing how well the kitchen staff off-stage can do their job.
The absolute ultimate, however, has got to go to Mario Batali. The tour of Italy that he did a couple years ago was excellent. You just have to love a man who knows that much about sausage!!!

Julia Childs! She was the backbone of American Culinary!
If we are referring to TV Food Newtwork then I agree with you. I think Mario Batali, Tyler Florence, and Alton Brown. Giada Delourentiss is LeCordon Bleu trained but I think she is over rated because of her relationship with the DeLaurentiss movie producer. As far as Emeril Lagassee--just a business promotional thing, Paula Deen---I've tried many of her recipes and for southern folks maybe ok, for me--not my number one choice! Sandra Lee reminds me of "Chef Boyardee"! Rachel lives in our area and has become an over nite sensation although I cannot vouch for her culinary delights.
Bobby Flay is arrogant and in my opinion extremely over rated!
I have worked with several well known chefs including the world reknown Ewald Nottier- famous for sugar pulling!
Jaqauc Pepin is probably one of the best I know of! I'm going to go with Julia Childs and Jaquac Pepin!

Paula Deen would be my favorite.I love the food she cooks up.I'm from the South and I like to compare her Southern foods. The only thing I would do different if I were her would get that dog out of her kitchen, not good.Good question....

Alice Waters of Chez Panisse. She was revolutionary, and quite a groundbreaker. Not only the organic trend, but being a female chef in a male dominated profession. I respect her for forging the path for women in that era. And she's still kickin' butt!

Nigella Lawson - Because she isn't like a conventional, and she doesn't measure all her ingredients which makes a nice welcome change and I have tried some of her recipes and they are very good. Also Brian Turner - Because he also makes nice dishes and he seems really nice
