Several of my uncles and cousins stuttered and found help from The Stuttering Foundation of America. One went to a speech therapist referred by them; the others only used their book "Self Therapy for the Stutterer." They all said that it took determination and practice.

Sorry to say only a very small handfull overcome their stutter.
John Harrison, a famous american shrink (i think he is) had a stutter. He is now a recovered stutterer. He has written various books.
However I would suggest going to the web site below and looking into where the closest location to yourself is and contacting them.
It is called The Mcguire program. Run by stutterers for stutterers.
I have been doing the course for 5 years and it has made huge inprovements to my life.
It does however take commitment and perserverance.
It is the best course I have ever done and I have done numerous.
Good luck

Record one passage into tape or cd...
Play it, and pick up what 'sound' you cannot pronounce or say properly.
Once you find out something common, say it out slowly and record it too.
Till you smooth it out
This will increase confidence
