I think Ms. Beebs is a trifle overblown in her criticism of tap water. There are differences between places based on the source of water and the geology of the region. Well water often needs to be ion-exchanged treated. As for the stickers, in the absence of specific details, any of the other commenter's suggestion may well apply. You might want to check if the event is really "sudden" or something that happens periodically. I know some city utilities flush lines in the springtime, and some water supplies from large lakes can be subject to spring water turnover, as the heaviest water in the lake (which is at 4 deg C) and overlain by colder water, overturns as the colder water is heated and becomes heavier. This is one of the truly weird properties of water. If it wasn't so common, it would be a wonder chemical.

Tap water is prone to contamination from a multitude of sources. First think where your water comes from... most likely a lake. When it rains the water goes into the storm drains and into the lake. If there was an auto accident and gasoline leaked on to the road, the rain takes that to the lake. Manufacturing facilities are allowed to discharge into these areas as well. Then it is up to the water company to treat the water so that it is 'drinkable'. Now just think of what they have to put into the water to make it that way. And then one day someone make a mistake and WHOOPS! Don't drink the water. I like to filter my water first!

I've been drinking tap water my whole life and it's never made me sick. I even drank it several months ago when they were advising to boil it (a water main broke and they said boil your water before drinking it for 5 straight days). I don't watch the evening news or read the local papers, so I had no idea. I was drinking it as if everything were OK. Nothing happened.

It could be they have just realised there is a problem with the water storage tanks, or the pipes leading to the taps.
You could phone the local council and ask the environmental health department for advice. Or speak to student services and see what they can find out on your behalf.

an outstanding form of the water I drink is filtered tap water and prefer that. no longer that there is really some thing incorrect with tap water, that is only harsher and filtered has a softer, extra pleasant style. i do not imagine i have ever had bottled water.

tap water is very unsafe. It is recycled toilet water, treated with strong chemicals, sanitizers and bleach. It is run through pipes made of metals and plastics which can leach into the water. Bottle spring or steam distilled water is best. Bottled water marked "purified" or "enhanced" is nothing more than tap water in a bottling facility
