The answer to this varies with the use that the batteries are intended for. I would think that overnight (10 to 12 hours) would be sufficient for this type of battery. With most rechargeable batteries, the trick is to run them completely down, and then let them recharge. Do this 3 or 4 times, and the battery will develop a "memory", as to the amount of charge it needs to operate. Most batteries will only recharge to about 90 percent, but if you use it for an hour, and then put it right on the charger, it will develop a "memory" that will cause it to only take an hours charge, and that will be the amount of usage, that it will be programed for.

Charge them for whatever duration is instructed by the charging unit. Most will shut off by themselves when the battery is charged, some won't, (or won't give some kind of signal that it's done.)

Unless you have a rapid charging setup, most NiMH chargers will typically take about 8 hours. If the batteries are new, some chargers will say to do the first charge for about 12-14 hours.
