In terms of cameras, that would be the Hasselblad H3D which is rated at 39megapixels. However, the sensor itself is manufactured by Kodak. In terms of needing a sensor that large, to make the analogy, why shoot with 4x5 film? One of the nice things about 4x5 or any larger format is creative cropping of the image. With a 39 megapixel image, or a 4x5 image you are allowed to crop into the image more and enlarge without having to worry about increased noise, or grain. Try cropping way into a 35mm image or say an image created by a 8megapixel image then making a significant enlargement.

Your question is meaningless - it's a bit like asking what is the biggest 100 in the world. Mega in computer terminology merely means 2 to power 20, or 1 048 576 bytes. In other words, it's a means of counting or showing size. So a 10 megapixel camera will have more pixels than a 7mp, that's all

The largest I have seen is the Nikon D2X which has a 12.4 mega-pixel. However, tomorrow who knows there might be a camera that has 12.5 mp They will incressingly get larger, though one day it will get to the point that it doesn't really matter because you won't be able to tell a different. Right now the only good thing that larger mega-pixels do is with photo editing because it keeps cleaner edges.

Apparently Fuji have produced something along the lines of 50MP. But seriously, there's no need to go above 12.

If you buy a digital back for my camera, it will cost 25,000$$ and insofar as megapixels, you could not add them up. I shoot film, don't worry about pixels.
