When I came home from Iraq all I wanted was to be near my loved ones and and as far from stress as possible. My Fiance and I went a vacation to my home state, saw my family and friends and then went off on our own for a week to be romantic and relaxed. It is not so complicated for a man coming back from such a nasty place. Just about everything in the western world is a welcome contrast to that place.

Really, I would have to say that the most important thing you can give him is the gift of patience and a lot of love. He has much to work through and these first few weeks of his return can be difficult. If he is anything like me and most of the men I was stationed with, he was missing you the whole time. You are the only one who can give that to him. Congratulations to both of you on a deployment past. Have fun!

I noticed I got a thumbs down already. I have to wonder why. Really, was the questioner not asking for practical advice? Weird.

entertainer:

You are missing the point entirely. For a soldier in harms way in Iraq or anywhere it is a nasty place. I was there long enough to see the beautiful sides of the culture and the country, but overall it was a very negative experience. In fact, there was not one day when I was not faced with direct attacks on my teammates and myself. If it was not attacks it was the hateful stares of the people that we are charged to protect. You can tell me all about how it seems throught hteir eyes, but that does not change the reality of it. I have saved quite a few Iraqi lives during my deployment and it was always at a risk to my own life, so don't preach to me about the reality of being a soldier in a war zone.

I am sure all your husband will want is to be with you. Why not book into a nice hotel for the night with a romantic meal etc. I am sure it dosent matter where you are as long as you are together.

Message to Teufel - Iraq is a lovely country and the people there are very friendly. The hostility comes from governments like America and Britian thinking they can take over and make things better when they are not wanted. It is a shame that you were sent there in a position where you are not wanted as you would not of got to see the real Iraq.

How would you treat a solider that came to destroy your country? Because that is basically what America and Britain are doing. Last week they bombed a house near my family that was full of women and children. There was no reason for this and they killed 3 people and put 4 children under 7 in hospital!!!!!

Your husband hasn't seen you for quite some time, so he has his own ideas of what he is going to "want" when he gets home. Just send the kids to stay at grandma's for the night, and be very "receptive". A good home cooked meal before hand might be in order. Since he was in a Muslin country, they were not allowed to have Pork produces in the DFAC's (mess halls). Maybe a nice baked ham dinner, (with you for dessert)

PS: If he is able to keep his hands off you long enough, tell him I said: "Thank You" for his service to our country.

I would guess that you live near Kany Bay. If you have some extra money get a flight to Maui, Lanai, or Kauai. Maybe for one of the nights you could stay at a great hotel just to celebrate, the rest of the time find someplace cheap and get to know each other again.
