What if he had given Tommy a rematch 6 or 8 months later instead of 8 YEARS later, would the outcome had been any different from their 1981 clash?

Tommy Hearns was in my mind the only fighter who had Leonards number. Both fights could of and probably should of been victories for the Hitman, i think the Hearns robbed himself in the first fight he knew he had to stay away in the last round but his ego got the better of him when he should of stayed away and like you said i think if he got the rematch quick it would of been another amazing fight which i think Hearns would of won. Then again though Hearns should of won the second fight even though it was 8 years later if it were 3 other judges he would off, that was one of the worst decisions in boxing history.

Frank D got a thumbs up from the blogbaba, this is one of those rivalry's that will always be debated, and history will only widen the gulf between the Hearns camp and the Leonard camp. Of the four superstars, Hagler, Duran, Leonard and Hearns, Ray was remarkably successful, beating each of the others, drawing with Hearns and only losing to Duran. I really can't explain it, because I didn't think Ray had what it took to beat Hagler or Hearns. Shows what the blogbaba knows about boxing don't it. If Ray would have given Tommy a quick rematch, I think Hearns would have KOed Ray. I always thought it was a quick stoppage in the second fight, and was never impressed with Ray's style of boxing. Still, the results speak for themselves.

In the rematch I am sure Hearns won, this was one of the worst decisions in boxing. One of the judges had Leonard winning the last round by 2 points! If the fight had been sooner, it would have been a good fight. I thought Hearns had the edge before the first fight, but lost, so you can't say for sure.

I think it will reach the scorecards. Ray Leonard learned to be more careful in fighting Hearns the first time around. I think Leonard will be more cautious and outbox Hearns and win by a unanimous decision.

The only difference would be Hearns would touch the canvas in a quick rematch.

ya know, it's funny when a fighter gets knocked out, sometimes it takes him a while to get "back." hearns had that 1st fight won, to everyone's surprise, outboxing the slick master boxer...then it was ray's turn to shock everyone and outgun the "hitman." so, if they had fought right away, i think ray would have carried the psychological edge into the fight and knocked tommy out earlier. he simply couldn't outbox tommy so he would've had to go at him early and hard and try to blow him out. personally i think that would've played right to ray's ego to have an early kayo of hearns. i think tommy improved, somewhat, over time, while ray deteriorated over time resulting in the outcome of their 2nd matchup!
