Because of the health problems related to second-hand smoke. This is the only reason for the legal ban; other things like the crying child someone named can be annoying too, and other things like fastfood someone else named are bad for your own health... but listening to a crying child can't cause cancer, and there is no such thing as second-hand fast food. I can eat an entire bucket of fries in public and while people can smell it, no one has to ingest even the slightest crumb. If in the future it'll be proven that eating fastfood around other people causes cancer (and I don't mean the research of one weirdo, but if the general medical & scientific community agrees on second-hand fastfood as with second-hand smoke), then I will never eat another french fry in public again. I don't want others to do that kinda stuff to me; I don't do it to others.

Smoking is no longer regarded as socially acceptable, because based on a reseach, smoking will
1)give more bad health to the humans around the smoker that is called passive smoker. than the active smoker
2)give an unpleasant smell to the clothes and a yellow nicotine on the teeth and finger tips of the active smoker which is difficult to be cleaned
3)threat a dangerous diseases such as lung cancer, hyperten
sion,miscarriages for women, etc
4)burn their money for nothing but making bad health and decreased the monthly fund for their families.

Working in a place where I sell about 200 packs a day to regular customers, I think I can safely say that it is not the just the non-smokers that are having a problem with it anymore. Some people just love to, or enjoy smoking.
I see many people though, that are struggling to quit because they have finally realized the health problems it causes. And cigarette companies are contributing just as much info as the "anti-smoking" companies on how to quit.

A few reasons, or more: Many people decided to stop for health reasons, the cost, the smell and complaints from others.

Those people have decided they no longer have to tolerate it in their homes, cars or work areas. That feeling has grown, and now the majority in many places (like California) don't smoke and don't want to be around the negatives of smoking and smokers.

I quit 18+ years ago. Bought a Caddie the next year, trading up from a Chevy! (4 pack a day habit), no one smokes in my SUV now, either.

Because of the rise of the politically-correct health Nazis. They fund all this anti-smoking propaganda off cigarette taxes and they make people believe smoking is the most horrible thing ever. It's like a hysteria.

Smoking's not good for me, but why not get upset if I eat at McDonalds too? It's no different.

I think the reality is you have to smoke A LOT before anything bad will even happen. I've smoked since high school. At a pack a day thats 10s of thousands of cigarettes over the years. And I'm still here and despite a cough and am in relatively good shape with working out regularly. It's not as bad as its made out to be.

All the hype about cancer. But notice how a lot of states have upped the taxes on smoking products for more revenue for the state, and that the U.S. government basically owns and controls the cigarette companies?
