I paid estimated tax in 2006, but now I forgot how much and when I paid it! My bank does not keep check record of over 6 months, and I can't find my old check book.
Can someone tell me how/where to get the information? I don't want to pay double tax or penalty!

Call the IRS 800-829-1040. Fridays usually have the lowest call volume.

If your accountant instructed you to pay the amount, he should have record of the amount as well. The estimated tax vouchers & filing instructions may also have been included with your 2005 tax return.

Call the IRS and ask, they should be able to tell you. And if you end up overpaying, they'd catch it and send you the refund, although it would take several months for that to happen.

You're joking, right? You don't keep your bank statements or proper financial records and you're looking for a bailout here? How do you plan on filing your taxes if you don't keep adequate records as required by law??

Go back to your bank. They can provide copies of all records, not just for the past 6 months. They can also provide copies of all canceled checks though there will be a sevice charge for that. Your bank and your check stubs are your ONLY records.
