This is a tough question to answer, but the main reason is because God gave us this earth with the desire that we would make it like heaven... in other words, a place where only goodness and love are seen. A place where every action that is taken is taken out of the motive of giving and expressing God's love to others. Holy means unselfish, always proper and right in behavior and motives and decisions. So why have an earth seperate from heaven? As our Creator, or our Father, God loves us and wants us to learn as we grow. Just like a child learning to walk. It can be a difficult process and the child can behave any way they want if they fall. They can be angry and wrathful, or they can learn from the fall and try again. God wanted us to have a chance to express ourself. That's why He gave us a life. It is up to us to choose how we express ourselves. And if in this creation we act like He does in heaven how happy that makes Him! Because He sees all the strife that people choose to do instead of being kind. So acts of love and selflessness please God so immensely! Because the point is: We can do anything we want to do, but it feels so MUCH better to do good.
Another reason why we live on earth first rather than heaven is because God does absolutely nothing wrong. He is absolutely pure in everything He does. Heaven is a reward, yes, but it is also home to God who can not do evil. He also can not abide by evil because it breaks His heart - He sees the injustice that is happening to the person wronged and He can not bear it because He sees how it will affect them. And He never wants harm to come to anyone! So why is heaven so seperate? Because if there were to be a place for us to exist in for all eternity...for timelessness itself, wouldn't you want it to be absolutely fair? Absolutely kind? Absolutely wonderful and beautiful? Absolutely free of all harm? If there is a God (and there IS!!) wouldn't you want Him to make heaven perfect? But God says about our life here on earth He is longsuffering, not willing that anyone should perish... what He wants is that we should learn how and why to do good. It is because doing good allows us an open heart to be filled with love. Shouldn't all of the universe, the earth, and heaven itself be founded on love? If people on this earth do terrible things, which we do, God is still there saying, "I am holding out my hand to you to rescue from what you are choosing!" And God's hand remains held out to anyone who wants to grab it. He doesn't just abolish this earth because He cares about everyone on it, and He wants us all to have time to learn. People get hurt, and people die. That is a reality that is hard to bear. But from God's perspective, dying is the BEGINNING of life in eternity. Not the end of life. And for hurt, God brings the comfort He can through whatever avenues He can. He really assigned us a job on earth to be His hands, His love, His mercy. The job He actually gave each of us is to be like Him! Wherever we can. And sometimes we will find that someone else is taking the job and being like God for us, because we are the ones that have been hurt, have fallen down, have been betrayed, and are dying. So He comes with great, great love sometimes through the eyes, the hands and the heart of another. Trust me, He is observing all that we do, and He LOVES US SO MUCH when we do good. And even when we do wrong, His whole heart is to turn us back so that we don't suffer anymore. So the question is why are we here on earth instead of heaven? So we can learn love. So that one day we will be completely willing in heaven to always choose to love. We will fail here, but Jesus will carry us when we fall. But I am certain when one day we meet God face to face we will be happy to choose to do the right thing forever after.

a home is not heaven cuz the bible says that no flesh shall enter into heaven since we are still in the flesh......
a home is a place we live in, a shelter & the head of the home is Jesus Christ.....
Now fear the Lord and serve him with all faithfulness. Throw away the gods your forefathers worshipped beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord. But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.

I believe that all people go to Heaven and we use this time to gain knowledge, understanding, and after we die, we spend as much time as we need to in Purgatory to dwell on our actions in life so that when we do ascend to Heaven, we have achieved peace and deserve to live there.
It could also be that we live in Heaven, but we go down to Earth to gain a greater understanding of hardships, pleasures, happiness, sadness, etc. Eternity in peace sounds nice, but eternity is a very long time.
Who knows?

But who told you that our home is heaven in the first place? Heaven is a destination we go to when we die. It is not a destination when we are still alive on earth. On earth your home is where you go back to sleep and live in when you are not outdoors.

Because God created it and satan ruined it so he destroyed the first earth age and created Adam and eve and this dispensation of time is from the garden of Eden to the return of Christ and this was intended to give the souls who followed satan in his rebellion a second chance, so everybody has to be born of woman once and the the judgment.

My eternal home is Heaven. God is not ready for me to be there yet. He handles the problems.

Because, Heaven is the greatest reward mankind has ever, and will ever know. You have to earn a reward this great. And even though none of us could ever really do enough to EARN it, Jesus cuts us slack by only requiring us to accept him as our savior. Something that should be a "no-brainer".
