People think it is getting worse because of their perspective. They don’t know much about history. Crucifixion used to be a common form of execution! Do you know how many Jews were killed during the Holocaust? Me neither! A lot!
The world is getting better, but really bad things still happen today, just like they happened a thousand years ago.

People have this convenient delusion that the world used to be this wonderful place and the birds sang and the flowers grew without needing to be watered and no one ever took a sh*t 'cause they didn't need to. That world never existed.

This is a complicated question. In a socialogical aspect the world is better with ever passing day. In a situation such as Hurricane Katrina one might think the world is getting worse. Many people blame the government. But had something like that happened 60 years ago it was government policy for the federal government to stay out of the issue. The New Orleans area would have been on its own to handle everything from the rescue missions to the rebuilding efforts. Granted, a much better effort could and should have been enacted to handle Hurricane Katrina, nevertheless that situation is being taken care of today better than it would have in any other time history. Katrina is one of many serious disasters the world has seen in the last decade. From the tsunami in southeast asia to 9/11 the world can seem like a terrible place, but compared to the past the world today is a much safer and friendlier place. Today we see so much horror through the media. This new era of mass communication over the last century(especially the last 20 years) is barely even a minute spec on the time line of human history. The violence and horror and atrocity that has followed humanity over its course would be absolutely mind boggling if we saw it today. Throughout human history slavery, genocide, capital punishment, religious persecution, war and many other terrible things have run rampant. We see all of these things still today, but they lessen with every passing day. Today we do see such new evils like weapons of mass destruction but if you ask me i'd rather be blown up then tortured to death for not converting my religion.

Great question. Personally, I suspect that the life of the average person or maybe median person on the planet today is better by leaps and bounds than it was 500 years ago. And it's a lot more stressful. So there are your options - flush toilets and antibiotics - but slave to a job that may or may not exactly float one's boat. I suspect the balance is for better, yes, the world is getting better. Short term fluctuations, like since yesterday or last week, it's just too short a time period to tell . If it's been getting worse that just sets the stage for the next bound upward, IMHO.

And now I shall meditate on the thought of the hour - hoochie mamas. Ommmmmmm.

Worse. I don't know how old you are but I am over 60 so have seen a lot of water go under the bridge. Believe me, things are worse. I would say that from my vantage point, the biggest difference is that we no longer respect life...in any form...human or animal...trees or plants..nothing means anything to most people. Its all about power and wealth and cutting the other persons throat and climbing over their body to the next rung on the ladder. War used to be something you fought over an ideal...today it is over just about anything that will make a few bucks for someone. Although I love life and being alive, in all honesty, I pity my grandchildren for having to grow up in a place that has lost the ability to care.

The world is not what is used to be far from it but there is so much to learn about the Lord love and faith we have an inernet where we can share our faith and put our prayer requests on websites. We have freedom to pray in our homes, There is revival in God going on. Focus on God not just the negative because that is what the media wants you to see and believe. All thing work together for good and that includes the bad.

Worse!
2Ti 3:1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.
2Ti 3:2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,
2Ti 3:3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,
2Ti 3:4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;
2Ti 3:5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.

the good- technology, knowledge that we may never lose, more freedom for more people in the US and the world.
the bad- decline in "morals", whatever those are. if we are so unhappy, we'll change. and it won't be to go back to christianity either. we'll get less selfish as we realize we need each other.

The good is forever, the bad can easily be changed, so we are much better. as a whole of course, so many people whine about their personal lives, we're just drops of water in the stream of humanity, and its going in the right direction.

worse.

because some people are in complete ******* denial of reality and are looking forward to the world getting a lot worse because they think they will be personally singled out and swept away from all pain and suffering because they chose the right path and its not the same path that anyone else did so they have to tell everyone about it.

The world is more brilliant and intellectual as it was when I was born 66 years ago, but it has also become more vicious, egocentric, irritable and mentally unbalanced. You figure!
