I'm not a Christian nor do I claim to be a religious man. After reading the bible, I would place an equal importance on his life and his death. Both seem to reflect humanity and good will...

Jesus' life is an example on how a christian (Christ follower) should model his or her life after.
Jesus' death is the perfect sacrifice of God's son to save all people from hell.
Read the first 1 to 4 books of the new testament in the bible. Thats where i learned what i needed to know.

That's an interesting question to answer. His death was not important. I cringe to write this because I know I am setting myself up for rebuke, but his actual death means nothing. The reason he died was for us. He took upon our sins. In the Garden. I think a lot of people lose focus of the fact that during his life, he created authority from God. He is the reason we have the New Testament. The fact that he took upon our sins is much more important. He did that while he was alive.

Life, life, life, his life was more important! Like all human beings - and God - Jesus passed away. However, it was his teachings that the church was founded upon. I mean come on, The Beatitudes! The Beatitudes is what being a believer is all about!
God doesn't need a sacrifice to forgive, He can and does forgive whenever He wills it. God did not need Jesus' death for anything, because God doesn't need anything. He is All-Powerful, All-Knowing, Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

The problem is that his life showed us how to live, but it was the death and resurrection that enables us to understand who Jesus is. That is why in the 8th chapter of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus had to heal a man's sight twice. Mark used this as a way of saying that the rest of the gospel (passion, death, resurrection) will enable us to really see Jesus.
God Bless,
Vic

His life was important to show the disciples that he was in fact God in the flesh, His death was a fulfillment of prophecy and more important because it is what God's will was for Him to take away the sins of the world.

That is a really good question. Since by His death destroyed ours, I would have to say His death is more important.

They are both important. What is more important is the resurrection. Without Jesus raising from the dead, everything else would mean nothing.

No new testament or bible to fill without his life. You would not ask this question if the papers just had written "some Jew died".
Why not make us more crazy by asking:
-his life or death or resurection,
-his words or actions or miracles.
-his friends or his enemies (every good story needs them)
-the men or the women in his life
...etc you get the picture.

i think many people want his death to be more important, because then they feel they don't actually have to make any effort to follow his teachings. they live materialistic lives racing around like rats and feel that his death gives them an excuse not to love one another.
his life was more important because it is an example of how to cultivate communion with god
