Most ridiculous stereotype others make of Christians: that theyre all the same.

Most ridiculous stereotype Christians make of themselves: my church is better than yours.

Accurate stereotype made by others about Christians: theyre extremely naive.

Accurate stereotype made by Christians about other Christians: were not gonna get along because were from different denominations.

My understanding of the word stereotype is that it's a negative image that is applied to everyone in a group. Is there such a thing as an accurate stereotype? The Christians around me project as many images as there are people to project them, I don't think I can apply a one size fits all image to them.
I looked up the definition, and this is what I found...
A too-simple and therefore distorted image of a group, such as “Football players are stupid” or “The English are cold and unfriendly people.”\
A generalization, usually exaggerated or oversimplified and often offensive, that is used to describe or distinguish a group.
Both examples come from American Heritage Dictionary of Cultural Literacy, different editions.

Most ridiculous? The "church lady" stereotype: all Christian women dress dowdy and plain and are uber-prissy. Many of them are this way, but I've met some who were modern in their fashions and who didn't automatically flinch when confronted with the earthier side of life.

Most accurate? That they want everybody else to go along with THEIR rules - rather than just staying away from things they personally don't like.

Most ridiculous? That they are all the paragons of moral virtue and niceness. Example of what I mean is the all to common expression of saying "it was the only Christian thing to do" when in reference to doing good or kind deeds. There's good and bad in every group, but the stereotype that Christians are the only moral folk bugs me.

Most accurate? Uncomfortably for them, that they don't have good grasp on science or history. (Note: This doesn't apply to all Christians. But I find that the vast majority are like that.)

The biggest wrong stereotype of Christians is that they are close minded and self righteous. I use to think this way about Christians before I became one. I found out that Christians are righteous, but it is not because of what we have done, but because of what Jesus has done. We are not closed minded because we know that God has proved Himself and the Bible to us.

The most accurate stereotype of us: Is that we are the Children of God.

The most ridiculous CHRISTIAN stereotype:

"Christians are stupid and irrational."

The most accurate CHRISTIAN stereotype:

"Christians believe that the Bible is the Word of God."

Sorry about that 2nd one, I haven't heard a lot of accurate stereotypes on Y!A.

The most ridiculous stereotyped Christian are those that are stereotyped by non Christians. Christians are not mean-spirited, nor are we perfect, but we are saved by grace, We do sin, We do have to repent of our sins. We are most assuredly children of the King of Kings.

The most ridiculous stereotype is that they are about love and peace. The most accurate is that many are prejudicial, judgmental, holier-than-thou, hypocrites. Did I just judge? Oh well, as much as I have been judged by Christians I think I should be allowed one. After all, I didn't cast the first stone.

That we are all dim wits, stupid, retarded, no brains, easily persuaded. No true of most christians I know, very smart, nice people...

Most accurate? That we are narrow minded... Because God is narrow minded then too, and I dont mind so much. Narrow IS the way, you know!
