shhhhhhh, despite the spalling mustakes, has it right.......a cruise ship is a floating luxury hotel designed to operate in calm benign waters like the Caribbean or Mexico or the Med....an ocean liner is a ship built to take the seas and carry passengers.......for example, both Queen Elizabeth II and Queen Mary II can, and do, carry passengers from England to New York across the North Atlantic, the meanest roughest toughest body of water on Earth.......if some cruise ships tried that, you'd have a real life Poseidon Adventure.......

heck, QEII ( and Canberra, a real ship, not a foo foo hotel ) carried British troops to the South Atlantic and the Falklands 25 years ago, and that aint no millpond down there...

There was a special on the Travel channel and basically a crusie ship is a hotel built to float and an ocean liner is built to traverse the ocean and afalpted to take passengers. The construction of the ships is totally different. Im not sure if the Travek Channel has where you can veiw past episodes but it was pretty informative
