I've been eating Wheat for the past 2 years since I heard that it was less fatening then White. However, I've recently heard a Doctor on the View talking about Celiac disease and the harmful effects of wheat. He also claimed that Humans digestive tract is not evolved to handle wheat.
Is this true?If so,which is the healthiest bread to eat?

Hi there-
I have the answer, and I just learned this from Dr. Oz himself.
You must eat bread that is 100% whole grain-not 100% whole wheat like other people have said in their responses. This is something that so many Americans do not know, and I wish everyone knew this fact. Just because it says it is whole wheat does not mean it is whole grain-that is where the nutrients are! Make your own bread and you will know exactly what the ingredients are in it and be healthy.

French bread is the healthiest bread to eat. I like to eat six or eight slices in the evenings as a snack with real butter, and have done so daily for over 20 years. Due to this fact I have struggled to keep on weight. It's why the French people are so thin.

My husband is diabetic and loves sandwiches made out of almost anything so finding the right bread was really hard. I found some called (not kidding) Squirrel Bread. It's made with whole grains and no flour of any kind. Tastes good too.

Hi, I missed that episode of The View but most nutritionists will tell you that "whole" wheat bread is the best for your health. Read the ingredient , If it says "enriched" then it's not the whole grain, or whole wheat.

There are lots of wheat breads but you should avoid the ones that say "enriched." That tells you that the flour has been processed to the point that they have to "put back" some nourishment.

Good Luck.

I've heard whole grain bread is the healthiest for you. Personally, I like old fashioned, squishy Wonder Bread. We all have to die sometime, and if you (not you specifically, but people who refuse to eat carbs in general) want to deprive yourself of all the tasty foods out there for your entire adult life just to add another week to your life, you help yourself! I'd rather die a few pounds overweight when I'm 85 than to die "healthy" but hungry and pissed when I'm 86.

I'm sorry, I can't really comment on your first question, however per your inquiry regarding the best type of bread--Look at the ingredients list--if the first ingredient is stone ground whole wheat (rather than enriched whole wheat), this would be the ideal choice.

The healthiest bread to eat is grain or wholemeal..never eat white!! its just like a glue and your digestive system cant handle it and it stays in your stomach and doesnt digest properly..unlike wholemeal!

You don't require bread as part of a healthy diet, but you can certainly digest it just fine. Wheat bread, or multi grain wheat is your best bet.

Flourless, sprouted whole-grain bread is best. If you don't want wheat, you can find sprouted rye or barley (both flourless, of course).
I do very well on the wheat. Why not eat it if you don't have celiac disease?
If you have a Trader Joe's near you, they have a great selection.
