2. I take this opportunity OF introducing myself as .......
If the second one correct, doesn't it sound odd?

It's the first one. Although to be more appropriate/concise, it'd be better as:

"I'd like to take this opportunity to introduce myself as..."

The first one is correct cause you are explaining the purpose, the aim you take the opportunity (in order) to do something else , in this case introduce yourself.

The first one is correct because after the verb take have to be added the proposition "to' and it is wrong if it is replaced by of.

first one is in present tense
second is in present continuous tense
both seem to be correct.
But i prefer u stick to 1st one.
