... without having to actually take a class or join a choir or something? I kind of want to sing in the talent show, and I really like to, but I'm not sure if I'm good enough. I heard my friend and she's really REALLY good...
I don't mean like rock or songs like that, just... songs. like Phantom of the Opera (but without too much soprano) or songs that don't require much using voices specially like in modern music.
please, please please!!! and thank you very much!

Do what those others said, and also sing in the shower. It's a way to practice without people hearing you. Practicing in front of your family and/or friends is a good idea, too, because if you make it into the show, you'll be singing in front of a whole bunch of people. Before you start practicing a song, do some warm-ups. Do a few scales to see how high and how low you can go. You may surprise yourself. If you hear yourself hitting a really high or really low note that you can't believe you hit, do it again; don't be afraid to stretch your range. The only way to expand your range is to practice.
I was an alto/soprano (in between) a few years ago, and I was kinda afraid to go any higher or lower. My choir teacher told me that the only way to be able to sing those other notes is to practice, and I really wanted to be able to sing more, so I did what he said: I practiced (though it was scary at first), and now, I can sing into the high soprano range and can also sing tenor. :)
DON'T BE AFRAID TO TRY THINGS!

no matter if you're a blessed potential, you aren't from now on waiting to flee without practise. that is the purely potential you may be equipped to manage and strengthen your voice. you may prefer to warmth up, yet gently humming and making a song scales. doubtless do no longer belt out (sing at a highly loud-just about shouting voice) because it may and could harm your vocal cords. Having a warmed up voice may actually help you conveniently attain more effective notes, besides the indisputable fact that you're restricted to what notes that you may attain in accordance to what your vocal cords won't be able to manage, you won't be able to go more effective than your voice is bodily able to. ingesting a superior foodstuff plan, reducing down on caffeine (dries out) and dairy (creates mucus) will provide you clearer chords. yet instructions could do you some suitable do you may actually opt for to do extreme making a song. on the grounds that you aren't from now on waiting to coach your self technique on your individual in case you have not any heritage in vocal song, or song maximum in all probability. that you may manage to try classes at an area employer, and it can be acceptable low fee compared to personal voice education guide, which certainly is extraordinarily intense priced. no longer to discuss you may get the prospect to preform, that is an magnificent adventure.

When I did singing, I had my practices with a group of professionals, and in-between I practiced by picking a song I liked that had my exact range, and sang it, then branched out to more and more.

Have your friend coach you.

And practice. If you can carry a tune it won't be that difficult. If you can't carry a tune it will be impossible.
