I attend and am a member of a church built based upon a well-known, worldwide ministry. Last year, I interned there paying for room and board that cost me 500+. I thought this internship would help me grow in my faith more, but it turned out to be a complete disaster! Being that it was my first time interning there, I was told not to help any other intern or outsider if they need help or was hurting and needed some advice. It turn out to be so much of a big deal that I found myself sitting in the directors office on grounds of getting kicked out the internship. When meeting with him i was told not to help anyone or talk to anyone about their problems. Leadership often found ways of controlling me saying I wasn't allowed to do anything. It was like I had no rights!

One day, the church members, interns, and i went to a park. I had noticed a group of kids who were also attending. Then, something tragic happend and a many people were harmed. One of the mothers is sueing for this tragedy saying the people who were at the park were neglectful. The pastor of this church wants me to be a witness and give a deposition since i was there. But I did not see what had happend. I told him no, but now he has he secretary calling me, being rude to me, and I had nothing to do with it.

If you were in my shoes, what would you do?

I attend college and it's wierd when they waited until i got off spring break to call me and tell me i needed to do a deposition! It's almost like I'm being prosecuted.

The attorneys are the ones that can depose you. Ask for them to do so over the phone, or to pay for your travel expenses.

You have asked this question before and I tried to answer it then. Yet, I still do not have an understanding of your situation to be able to offer you the answer you seek.

Just going off my hunch, I do not think they are trying to control you by asking you for a deposition. It is likely that they are involved in a lawsuit and are being sued (or are suing). That being said (you know if they are suing or being sued), you can call the other party and let them know what you saw (if they are suing the park owner).

It looks to me, by the phrasing of the question, that you hold a grudge against the organization. That is fine. But do not lie under oath.

Let it go and you will eventually be a better person because of your experience.
