okay, I have been a couch potato all my life. I am ready to start to exercise and get healthy and loose some weight. I have heard of many programs such as pilates and yoga and this new program name fluidity. But isn't it true that for an exercise to be beneficial to the body, you have to reach target heart rate, and the only way to do that is running on standard treadmills or ellipticle. My body's fat is concentrated on my tummy and hips. THANK YOU for your suggestions.

True, so many options out there but you have to find the one that you are comfortable with. Since you already know about target HR, buy a HR monitor and start slow and see how you heart reacts to exercise and the intensity you apply. High intensity cardio, 3 times a week at 85% of your max HR will do it, of course it won't happen overnight. Another thing is modification of your intake. Eat healthy and cut the bad carbs. Good luck! Start slow and as your body adapts to the exertion, increase the intensity and duration!

if you've never been serious before, it's gonna be hard, real hard. Pilates and yoga are very low level workouts, I wouldn't recommend them for you. If you are really serious about this the first thing to do is get rid of that fat, then concentrate on tone and physique. Start running, not elliptical, not jogging running. You don't burn fat until you've been running for 20min. So you need to run for at least 40. Length is much more important than speed. Do this every other day to save your knees. Swim on two of the days you don't run and lift on the other one/two, nothing too serious start out easy, the emphasis is on the run. It's going to hurt but you need to stay with it. It's always good to hear about people who want to get in shape. You need to be serious about it, no pain no gain. Stick with it I know you can do it!

Ever heard of Tae-bo?
It is the best thing ever! Billy Blanks, x-professional body builder, and 3 time black belt, leads this dvd series. It is very simluar to kick boxing, high energy punching and kicking, gets you moving and it's fun! I'm addicted to tae-bo, adding the use of billy bands also gives you very nice muscle tone and burns even more fat! I'm very strong, although a teen girl, can beat many of my guy friends at arm wrestling, lol. That would be why i'm a musclemuffin. Tae-bo relaly works, check it out!
