It's just a theory I've been kicking around for a while but what if every religion was just worshiping the same god in their culturally unique ways?
How many denominations of Christianity do we have? and christianity is an offshoot denomination of Jedeauism afterall...
What if you could trace it all the way back to a single religion... before someone lost sight of the big picture getting hung up on a detail such as whether or not Mary had more than 1 child?
Example: the tower of Babel story... I'm using limited space so look it up if unfamiliar. God made the people speak different languages, but they still had the same beliefs. the name of God was different from language to language, but whether it's said in english, spanish, or arabian a chair is a freaking chair.
over thousands of years of cultural influence practices eventually differ, branches grow & fall until they just seem so radically different you'd have never guessed that it was once a religion they are at war against.

to the person who says:
No,not all religions worship the same God.Their beliefs are too contradictory to be reconciled.
look at the catholics and protestants... they are both Christian and worship the same God... they have different beliefs but they worship the same God.
That would be one of those "culturally evolved" aspects of the religion brought on by man through the institute created & run by man.

I am not talking about the God in question... I am talking about the possibility of how man worships God has changed due to cultural differences over the last 2000+ years.
You can compare Jesus & "Catholic Jesus" all you want... Jesus is Jesus, how worship is directed to & through him is created by man so don't act like just because the Catholics believe that Jesus accepts intersection through his mother & they preach about purgatory & all things related has any actual bearing on Jesus himself.
That is a man made idea and does not make any actual factual difference between the Jesus, just how he is worshipped.

Jesus said that God's true worshipers would worship him in spirit and truth. One can only get the Holy Spirit through faith in Jesus Christ. As for truth, Jesus Christ is the truth, and the only way to God. Only born again believers in the Lord Jesus Christ truly worship God.

The issue is not the nature of the deity -- it is the nature of the worship. It is quite a different thing to worship god if you are a methodist than if you are a muslim. But, until someone can actually demonstrate that some sort of god exists, all such worship is a waste of time, as it provably can have no effect on any real world event.

There is just one faith and just one believe there is a god, Religion is meant for mens Pride, and god HATES pride, Many Religions preach the same thing, but they show differently, this is why chirst said it is the blind being lead by the blind, And they both fall off into the ditch. Men fall to vain things, and even religion is a vain thing. Belief comes when one looks seriously at relgion and then relizes that they are all hypocrites. Christ said Many will come and Decieve many. He also said they broaden thier lies to encompance the land and the sea, Their is only one way to the kindgom, and only one way you can find it, and that is by dismissing all the lies that almost all Religous leaders tell you. Beaware of the wolfs that look good but are but ravening wolfs inside.

Ah, well they don't.
For starters, the God of the Bible gave his only begotten Son. Allah has no son. Jesus Christ died for me, and rose again. Muhammad died.
The Jesus of the Catholic church accepts intercession from his mother, whereas the Lord Jesus Christ of the Bible does not.
The god of the Catholic church purifies people for centuries in purgatory and takes money to reduce the time. The God of the Bible saves as a free gift, with all sins paid in full.
The god of the Catholic church revokes salvation for a mortal sin, requiring a sacrament of confession to a priest of Baal to reinstate the "salvation". The God of the Bible is not an Indian Giver.
See the difference? Now are you ready to get saved?

Except some (actually a lot) of the first religions had gods AND goddesses and we have only evidence of astrology for others. BTW, in terms of a single god, there was Judaism, then Catholicism, and then King Henry VIII and Martin Luther adapted Catholicism to suit their needs and now there are all sorts of 'Christian' religions. Also, I heard on a show once that Islam was based off of Judaism.

There are too many differences in religion to believe in the "same" god.
I do think that there is one ultimate higher power, and that "gods" are merely aspects of this (for lack of a better word) energy. But "gods" have personality and interact with a world. This "energy" is above, beyond and behind all that we see and do.
Perhaps the gods are how we relate. Perhaps this "energy" is the ultimate "god" to which you refer, but in the end, the differences between religions are too significant to be "one".

You are talking about doctrine, not that of religion. All major religions known today, worship only one GOD. and that is the same god of Moses, Abraham, Jesus and Mohammad.
Even Buddha acknowledges the one Supreme Creator of All as do most of your lesser religions.
there is a fashionable turn about right now to the many gods believe of the past, coming forward again. However, they still are the lesser gods even if they are worshiped. For there is only one God the Creator of all.

Cultural predigest would be the only thing standing in the way of religious unity I suppose. In today's world that is diminishing with education.

If there was just one GOD...religion would lose one of it's main "Selling points"...making the follower feel SUPERIOR than others! so nota good idea for those who use religion as a tool of social control ;)
