If you look through the links given here you will get an idea about how our universe may actually be at subtler levels. We are multi-dimensional beings who can act both from a surface level and also from deeper levels. Each person adopts a role suited to what lesson he has come to teach or learn in this life.

Unconditional love is from spirit to spirit, from a level of who we really are, and not from the superficial level of who we may appear to be. Everybody is in need of love and it is at the level of spirit that they can receive it from anybody. Unconditional love nurtures and brings out the best in every person. It can be expressed at the level of thoughts and feelings and does not always require explicit outer physical expression.

Experiment and you will find it is easy to get started producing results in this way. You may surprise others with what original things you may discover.

Experiment everyday with any of your friends, enemies, pets, babies, children, parents, brothers and sisters, teachers, police, employees, employers, corporations, politicians, criminals or anything else by enclosing, embracing them in your mind in a field of neutral love, like what you would feel for a baby or a pet, and observe the changes in their behaviour or in your relationships.

I happen to be a liberal Democrat and can't go along with this. Look, most people are good, but they also act in their own self interests to a large extent. It is just human nature, and it is not such a bad thing.

Most people are good, but as far as having "unconditional love", whatever that may mean, I think is only for a very tiny minority.

The best we can hope for is to have a society where we regulate how people and businesses treat each other, so that everyone is treated honestly and fairly, and those who can't live in a society like this are appropriately punished. A society where everyone has the freedom to do as they wish as long as they are not harming others. A society where everyone is given a fair opportunity to succeed. A society where those who for whatever reason, are less fortunate, are helped so that they at least have an acceptable quality of life, and perhaps another opportunity to succeed.

I believe.
We have been given freewill, and as such, we make our own realities by choice.
And yes, each and everyone of us must work on ourselves, as someone here posted, because that way we would spread this personal love to the next one (be it plant, animal, mineral, or vegetable), as we are all interconnected not only on this earth, but in this universe.
Every sage and prophet (the keepers of the keys to understanding the soul) has told us, love is that which is above all the rest.
Of course, there are those who choose to harm, hate, and destroy.
There is a ying yang, a battle of good and evil, a process that we travel through to enlightenment.

We are far from that point though many are more and more empowering themselves with learning of the "secret." But the road immediately ahead is a bumpy one. Just look at the answers you were given.

Still, I choose to believe in love. And live and give the love that God (or call this force what you feel more comfortable with - not to get into semantics) gave me to tap into the all abundant wonderful universe.

I have taken the quantum leap and am running in its field.

A beautiful theory. I do not think it would work due to mans instinctive need to be the better provider. For this to work you would have to move the religions of the world to promote tolerance in the name of their God not war against those with different beliefs.
Bottom line, we are a money based world and unconditional love will be beat out by self interest and greed.
Works great on a family and friends level. Most Christians are familiar with 'hate the sin, not the sinner' line of thinking.

Dear kkpadmanabhan,

I have to agree that there is an arguement for "unconditional love" of our "Human Race" being the basis on which we can truly free ourselves from Global terrorism.

I know that many will "Poo Poo" this suggestion as being impossible and wishful. My question is why is something which can be freely given to each and everyone of us on this planet, imposible to achieve ?

We are still growing as a race, reaching outwards and upwards to the next level of human achievement,understanding and development. The strongest basis/bond on which we will build and achieve is the ability to just love each other first as Humans. Where there is an inability to love your fellow "mankind" let alone "unconditionally", there is only the abyss of failure and destruction to look forward to. Time and history has already shown this to be an absolute truth. Mankind has to reach for the next level. Utilise our "energy sources" for construction and not weapons of "mass destruction".

May peace be with us all wherever we are on this earth.

Love can be unconditional but that alone is not enough to protect society from harm or from doing harm. Every culture and every group(religious, school of thought, etc.) has their own definition of "love". Furthermore, love without proper discipline and lack of proper parenting can spoil a kid.

There are many various reasons why people are capable of inflicting harm against another person. And love alone can't fix that. If it could, there'd be way less issues in this world. I DO believe in love, though, but to fix the problems in this world, you'd need to consider the various factors like political, psychological, economical, cultural, educational, etc., in order to gain a good perspective of each problem. Throwing everything under a single label does more harm than good and often, people pay for it with their lives.

Finally, there are those among us who're either born with biological defects or who're influenced socially(they suffer severe psychological or physical truama) to become psychopaths. I'm not talking about the Hollywood psychopath but those who've undergone extensive screening and who've taken the PCL-R(Psychopath Checklist Revised) and who are professionally and medically identified as "psychopaths". These people are capable of inflicting harm on others because they experience little to no emotions and the part of the brain that controls their feelings of compassion, guilt, etc., is either missing or undeveloped. You can't really "fix" these people currently so they won't inflict harm on others, you could simply try and "counsel" them but more than often, you'd be teaching them how to beat the system and cheat and lie to people, instead. After all, there's no existing treatment that caters for them. Many of these psychopaths are in fact leaders of cults, terrorist organisations, etc. (Example: Osama bin Laden, former leader of Aum Shinrikyo, etc. In fact, did you know that the plans of Shoko Asahara served as the basis of the Sarin attacks in Tokyo, Japan and in turn, his plans were refined by Osama as the basis for September 9/11.) But still, not all psychopaths are interested in killing people or in inflicting harm, though.

My take on your question is: your definition is a bit too narrowly defined and certainly for a topic as extensive as this, surely a broader definition would work better.

Since Yahooligans (Yahoo internet administrators) are now in India, and are in fact, foreign nationals to Americans, I find it pretty intrusive that the President of India is now used to pose philosophical/quasi-religious questions to what is a predominately American audience.

Unconditional love of all mankind was achieved by only one, Jesus Christ. If you do not know Jesus Christ and know the teachings of Jesus Christ, you cannot attain the state of unconditional love in 20 lifetimes. All you can do is create a state of self delusion, that you love everyone, unconditionally, and let go of all personal moral code, personal boundaries, and personal free choice to make decisions based on individual assessment of your own life.

There were lots of these types of people around in the sixites. They were called hippies and medicated with pot, to relieve the stress of seperating themselves from individual agency.

Their philosophy was also borrowed from India in the persona of the Beatle's Maharaja Noodle Roni, or whatever they called him, who played his sitar and intruduced the neru jackets to the US, as well as the use of hallucinogens.
