I have always colored my hair at home, this time I just went a wee bit lighter than normal... I am just thinking of putting in some low lights to make it look more to what I am used to.. My hair is pretty healthy . I always use shampoo/conditioner meant for colored hair and a conditioning treatment or when I blow dry and curl my hair.

was this aprofessional job? what product did you use?Professionals have the knowledge and all the products to support a change like that all in the same visit if you desire it to be so.Often at home jobs end up being uneven, blotchy, odd colored, flat, dried out or even burned. The chemicals in the products can have an effect. If you are not sure dont. It would actually cost you more in the long run to correct it. That takes more time and more product to achieve. The condition or integrity of your hair is the main consideration. If the hair is too porous it cannot accept the colors appropriately. If that happens you would have results like darker ends. There is actually an appropriate way to apply. Doing this yourself is very risky if you want it to look natural.New growth or that near the scalp has not been treated before and has the heat from the head to act as a catalyst, midshaft is cooler and ends generally poruous, varing degree of peroxide/ timing is used to achieve desired results. Also natural remaining pigment impacts what results you can or will achieve. It not as simple as mix part a with part b and apply all over.Believe me when I say, as a professional I can tell when someone has taken matters into there own hands. As you decideconsider what your end result could and should be and weigh the cost vs aggrevation. You could sit , put your feet up and read and have some one take full responsibility or you can stand in your bathroom with gloves, a bowl, a bottle, towels, combs, brushes, timer, plastic cap,etc and destination unknown.

I don't think it hurts to go a little darker - I guess it depends upon the level of peroxide you used on the existing color though. You are better off going with a very low peroxide level, otherwise you damage the hair. The porosity of the hair would be a concern. I know there is a product at Sally's that corrects porosity. I would wait a week and get that product, I think it's by Revlon. This is all if you insist on doing it yourself. I have tried at-home coloring and sometimes it's worked out, but I never get the roots to blend perfectly, so I just end up going back to the salon! That website has Hair Talk, but remember many of those people are not professionals.

I beleive there is a website on the back of the box and an 800 number you can call to find out how long you should wait before coloring or tinting your hair again.
