find out what's filling up your hard drive.
there's a neat program called Sequoia View.
it will show you graphically how your hard drive is filled up..

I would get a new hard drive or delete the necessary files.

if you just use word files, office has anoption to modify the installed programs, you don't have to have the whole pack installed. Check on add and remove programs from the control Panel, and from there you can pick which components you don't use. Word is more complete than works,to my point of view. Don't know what version you use, though. Also clean up your hard disk from unused items, and temporary internet files by backing up to removable disks or simply deleting stuff no longer needed. It's like a closet!

You must either have a small hard drive or you save a lot of stuff. I don't think a serious user would remove MS Office. Works will write documents, but you will not have all the formatting capabilities available in Office.

Works is a cheap immitation of Word - you'll have problems reading Word files or having others read Works files unless they are using Office 2003 and above. MS-Office is a much superior product. You can uninstall components you don't use (such as Excel and/or PowerPoint).
Hope this helped.
