No, Windows is a less secure redressed updated verison of DOS that used alot of popular features from OS X. Windows code for Vista is still based on DOS so though there are many new features the system is still basically very unsecure. True that Microsoft added security features this go around, but with very user interface intensive oversight. If people get tired of the constant authorization windows popping up and turn it off, or if they have the lower grade versions of the Vista packages they are no more secure than XP, Millenium, 98, etc. That said visually, Vista looks great, and they did add some of the features like gadgets, similar to Widgets that proved so popular for OS X. They also added a systemwide wide search that is more in line with Spotlight from Apple. They have a few "smoke and mirror" features that at first glance may seem to trump Apple OS X, but in reality, the usefulness just isn't there compare to the it looks cool factor. While Vista was just released, it is really on par with OS X Tiger which has been out for 2 years already. Leopard is getting ready to release and this will have the same great features like Unix based stability, virus & spyware security, and useful apps that always come with the Mac (iTunes, iMovie, iLife Suite) Spotlight, etc. It also promises to pack new features like Time Machine built in and a bunch of unreleased new features. For my money, & and the smart money, I just purchased a new MacBook Pro (It's in the mail). It was time to upgrade and instead of going with a Windows PC,and all it's headaches of patches, updates, crashes, system restarts, virus, spyware, malware, trojan horses, worms, blue screen of death, problems, I converted to Apple.

Windows Vista is still Windows. I think Microsoft is trying to steal the Mac look because people seem to like it more. I had the opportunity to use a PC running Windows Vista the other day and I wasn't impressed. It's 10x more complicated than XP, and I had a hard time getting used to it. And all of the visual crap is just going to make the computer slower. Also, since Windows Vista has more features, there are more things to go wrong. I wouldn't switch to Vista just yet, better wait and see what happens!
