I have always seen the occasional atheist or christian get a little roudy online, i myself am guilty of that sometimes. But what i saw tonight is too much, is there no low people wont stoop to? Can't we treat each other civily, regardless of religion or lack of. I hope that the reasonable christians and atheists will not take part in it. What do you think?

Almost every one missed my point. I didn't ask anyone to accept the other groups beliefs. All i asked was, since we will never agree on how we see the world, let's just be respectful to one another, but still maintain our beliefs, or lack of.

due to the anonimity of this service, being civil becomes more difficult because you can condemn anyone else's opinion not matter what, without fear of reprisal or refuttation. when christians and atheist meet in real life, then can be civil because they can see the other and respect them as a person. however, in here, we are merely iconic representations of people. we are without accountability that facial interaction requires of us. so people can be as obnoxious as they wish to be and not have to fear and reprisal.

You are right. and I agree with you. but I keep seeing the same thing over and over. So I do not believe things will ever change.

But what I see most, and do not understand is that Christians want to let everyone believe as they wish, but this is what the atheists do not want. so they tend to say bad things about ,Christians and their God, also make fun of their religion.

so if you have a very good, idea how to stop this. then there will never be any problems.

But the truth is, I believe atheists enjoy doing this. because if not, why do they come to a place where there are Christans. to complain about what, Christians believe in ???

I think atheists will never have much respect for a religious perspective, but would find it much easier to get along with Christians were it not for the insistence of some Christians to preach, proclaim and speak with such certainty about how the world works, with predictions of hellish consequences for anyone who doesn't agree with them. That is particularly infuriating to people who do not believe that truth is found in faith, but rather that the road to understanding is based on evidence and science, etc. All that is exacerbated by those who would try to codify their religious beliefs into law.

Will whites and blacks ever get along? No, probably not...why? It's because the groups have such different views and were raised differently. Christians were raised with having a "god" drilled into their heads and atheists, the same I guess. I think that non-believers are a LOT more open minded and accepting to believers, then vice-versa. I have friends who believe in "god" and we get along fine. We just DON'T TALK ABOUT RELIGION! That's the key! If everyone would just keep their mouths shut about certain things, we could all get along. (such as politics, race, etc.) Also, it's easy to be rude on here, b/c you are safe behind a screen and you don't know the person that you are being mean to!

In everyday life we work together, hang out, and talk together, but, this is the place for a good debate!....It's just sad that so many on both sides, for lack of an intelligent response(however closeminded) respond to good honest questions with name-calling and personal insults.......Oh well, those of us level - headed Christians and Atheists, know how to ignore them and put up with their right to free speech in the interest of having a forum like this to carry on our debates and to get in a few lighthearted "tongue in cheek" barbs...

Here here! I agree totally! I am a Christian and have zealously defended what I believed. As I recall,Jesus, whom I am suppose to follow, never freaked out and got defensive. He let his actions say who he was. I wish I were that humble. Maybe then I would truly speak to what his mission is and was. I suck at being a Christian! But I keep trying!lol

Maybe people should have another Category to post in.
How about a No Religion and No Spirituality category?
Why do atheists and agnostics post hostile remarks in a category that says Religion and Spirituality?

It'll flare up at times. usually when one side or the other gets offended. For Athiesm, it's not supposed to be a religion, but those that say they are Atheist sure act like it sometimes.

I am a Christian. I have no problem getting along with
atheists, agnostics, dreamweavers,seers, channelers,
voodoo experts. What someone else chooses to do or not
to do has nothing to do with me. I won't stuff Christ down their
throat. He's too big to fit.

I think that most Christians and atheists do get along but unfortunately there is a small segment of Christians who try to spoon feed their crap down people's throats all the while ignoring the very book they claim to honor and read. God gave us free will to make our own choice to believe or not. Let God be the judge not you christians who hide behind the crooked cross!
