Sounds like you are reading a little too much into the new clarification of an old rule...
Marines cannot get sleeve or half-sleeve tattoos. Basically no new tattoos that are visible while wearing PT clothing. Old tattoos will be grandfathered in.

Huh, and i always thought that as americans we had the right to free choice and speech. I guess the military is trying to turn into a dictatorship more and more. I mean what in the world can be harmed by somebody having a tattoo even a big one that can be seen. Isn't that the reason why most people get tattoos is because they want people to see them? That is just an example of how poorly this country is run, if they worry about something small like tattoos when they have bigger problems that they refuse to face. yeah GO AMERICA, not.

As much as I agree with freedom of expression (I have three tattoos as well), I also agree with the fact that Marines aren't there to be getting tattoos. I grew up a military kid, and everybody knew that Marines are the best of the best. The intelligence, psychological and physical tests to even be considered into the Marines are so intense.. why do you think their slogan is The FEW and the PROUD. If you really want to be a marine that bad, hopefully you are smart enough not to get a big dumb tattoo, or else they won't even send you that free t-shirt ....

So I suppose they will not allow Dolly Parton, Pamela Anderson, or Mae West into the Marines now. Shucks. They've got some really big tats.

is this not UN American or what? They are actually gonna round up all the people with tats and take photos of them and if they get any more they will get into trouble. makes me sick to my stomach that they can expect you to die for your country but its too much to ask your country to have the freedom to put some ink on you? *vomits*

how it will read is nothing big below the elbows or the knees, so basically any place visible when you wear short and t-shirts. it had something to do with a new image thing for the marines!

its so traditional for people in the military to get tattoos that i think they should allow it. they have been doing it for years it boosts morale at times for guys to get tattooes also i think they should let them if they want them im sure not everyone in the military wants them .
