Along with my cousins, we are planning an 80th birthday party for our grandmother. After searching for ideas such as favors, invite wording, etc. I continually see Card Shower.. Am I that nieve that I have totally missed something? Does it mean to simply mail a card to a person, or mail a gift card? I have seen people in accidents, etc. having a card shower. Even for baby showers I read a post where the person was offended that a normal baby shower was now a card shower. I would just like to know what I am missing before I mess up this entire party.

Thank you!

Card showers are generally used for older people (or other "shut-ins") when they have something to celebrate but it's impractical to have a party for them.
It's a nice way to share good wishes without putting a strain on the elderly (or ill) person.
One suggestion, if you live in a place where there could be danger to the person -- get a post office box or have the cards sent to an alternative address so you are not advertising the home of an elderly person -- especially if you put the notice in the newspaper.
On the baby shower -- I don't think card showers are particularly appropriate for those occasions.

A card shower is just that. Mailing of greeting cards. It's only to let the recipient feel the "love" and that they are thought about. People tend to write warm messages in the cards and some may send a monetary gift. But money or gift cards should not expected.

I believe a card shower means gifts of cash or gift cards to the persons favorite stores.
