Personally, I think it is very cruel, not to mention boring. Sure some people find it relaxing but I find nothing relaxing about using a skewered worm to suffocate a hungry fish to death. Even if you through it back you still scared the poor thing for life. It has been proven that fish DO remember things. This is just my opinion though, what does everyone else think?

It is Awesome just to be out in a boat enjoying the peace and calm away from the every day rat race. The sun relaxing U and just watching all kinds of Mother Natures beauty. Have U ever tasted baked Walleye. It melts in your mouth, would cost a fortune if U could get it fresh in a restaurant. Everything we eat was alive at one time. When U catch a really big one the adrenaline rush is awesome, but the fish as they get bigger and older they get a real strong fishy taste that most people don't care for. So U might as well release the dandy fish so it can live on and give someone else an awesome rush,Maybe even U Toripori !!!!

Ah, but you don't have to use a skewered worm, you can use one of the fine synthetic baits that are made nowdays, and anyway, I saltwater fish, so I skewer shrimp usually if I'm not using a lure.

Boring? Never! You sit down on the bank or take the kayak out and there's manatees, dolphin, all kinds of birds... it helps to develop an appreciation of nature that otherwise is lost (hence the idea that fishing is boring). There's a difference between fishing and catching, and you absolutely -have- to be able to enjoy the fishing in case you're not doing any catching.

Also, responsible catch and release has been found not to harm the fish in question, and tagging programs have proven that the same fish can and does get caught many times in it's life.

Also, I don't trust fish from grocery stores etc because I don't know how long it's been in there... the only fish I eat is fish that I know when it was caught, where it was caught, who caught it and how long it's been in the fridge. (Best eaten same day, though.) This takes a little pressure off the "Let's drop a big net in the ocean and scoop out everything we can and if we catch something we don't want who cares if it's dead before it gets back in the water" type of fishing that provides the vast majority of the worlds commercial fishing output.

Responsible recreational fishing also increases pressure on local groups to improve water quality and other environmental issues. Fishing licenses fund species research and other programs that EVERYONE benefits from as well. If all you're doing to "help" is griping at people who you think are doing "harm", you need to rethink your strategy and do some homework.

Have you ever been bite by a mosquito? It may sting for a second and go away. I have seen BASS grab a craw fish and eat it, i did not see him flinch. Well i don`t think fish hurt from a hook. MY GUESS WOULD BE THAT IN SOME FORM OR ANOTHER VEGETARIAN OR NOT AN ANIMAL DIED FOR YOU. My opinion of people like you that think it is cruel to hunt and fish, instead of doing it the way we do is you would rather hire an assassin to do it for you. When ever you ask people how a certain meat tastes they always say, it tastes like chicken so, i am proud to say fish don`t taste like chicken. artificial bait is my choice, and i don`t suffocate the fish i gut em alive. I GUESS THAT IS MORE HUMAN. Can you imagine if you didn't drink and piss water how much better off the fish would be. GO FEED THE FISH.

Fishing is a very good way to relax and enjoy nature at it's best. You don't have to STAB worms to fish there are plenty of artificial's that do a great job.Yes fish do remember. They remember to EAT.I've Hooked Carp that have broken my line and got away only to catch them later that same day and get my hook back.Fish don't feel Pain as we Humans do their nervous system is not set up in that way.As for being boring what is boring about being out in Nature's Glorious Beauty.Watching the Ducks play,The King Fishers Working,The Stealth of a Heron etc...I can Fish all day and not even care if I catch a thing.I LOVE IT !!!!

I understand how you feel. It's well known that every animal, whether it's a dog, bird, iguana, fish, or insect, has the full range of human knowledge, feelings, and emotions, and an IQ of at least 150. And they're all kindly vegetarians who live on a diet of tofu and carrots.

But then, that's cruel, too. After all, plants are people, too. I saw them singing and dancing in a Disney movie.

I like the taste of some fish, so it sounds like it would be okay if you're going to eat the fish. I haven't been fishing since my 8th birthday, when I caught 7 trout. I'm 22 now, so it was ages ago.

I personally believe God put all the creatures of the Earth here for us to be stewards of. That would definitely include harvesting some of the species of fish to sustain and keep our bodies and minds healthy.

Speaking of stewards, here is a great fish stew recipe:

So your message is:

Animals GOOD, Humans EVIL. Is that correct?

I think you need to focus your energy on helping the poor, elderly, lonely and suffering HUMANS that live right in your own hometown and stop worrying about lesser species.

Besides, I like the taste of fresh fish. Just like Nature intended.
