Okay... Christians always say things to atheists like, "Well, just wait until Judgement Day!" or "I grieve for you... turn to the light now before you are cast into eternal damnation!" or something similar...

If there WERE a god, and he's BENEVOLENT as the Christians claim, wouldn't he be **nice** enough to let the atheists simply die like they want - no Hell and no Heaven?

Judgment can be spelled as is or with an extra "e" as I had it. Both are correct.

Unfortunately, it's not so simple as all that. God took a calculated risk in investing people with imortal souls and free will - the risk of an eternal rebel. He was willing to take this risk in order to have what He desires: freely given love.

Those who die in their sins get exactly what they want: life as their own master without the presence of God. Unfortunately, the only place where God is not present is Hell. Imagine the uncalculable harm allowing an imortal rebel into a perfect place would cause - eternally at odds with God and His people - nothing doing! It would not be loving of God to allow such a thing to occur. Whether we like it or not, God has decided to allow men both free will and permanence.

Speaking as a christian... i dont EVER force my belief down peoples throats. I have a lot of friends that are different religions everything from chrstian to buddist to wicca. A true christian respects others beliefs even if they are not their own. and as for the question about death and where you go ... God does not make you beileve in heaven or hell no one makes you. The one thing that a lot of christains dont talk about is the fact that god gave everyone FREE WILL to believe, do, think and feel whatever they want. its also in the bible NOT to preach to people who do not want to listen if they want to learn they will come to you other wise you are infrindgeing on THEIR free will. (johovas witnesess( the door to door ppl ) are a complet and utter joke)

Your right, there in on eternal Hell or damnation as believed by many Christian faiths. But there is a heaven and only 144,000 whom God will choose, who will live there.
We all have a choice, to live now with death in view or to live with everlasting life in view.
But how will they know which one to choose if someone with holds that information giving them the choice?

I'm a Christian and the only ones I have said such a thing to is self-righteous Christians. I believe God is benevolent and what I have learned from personal study of the bible is that there is no such thing as eternal torment. It is a subject that anyone who sincerely studies the bible will find out is true.

Souls don't die. Who we are doesn't die. Our bodies do, but our soul lives on forever.

In this fact, God sent himself, his son in the flesh. to earth to die for us so we wouldn't have to suffer the punishment we deserve. That's where the 'benevolent' part comes in.

God gives everyone the choice. If he forced it, it wouldn't be love in the first place.

i didn't know Christians go around babbling about eternal damnation. I think that's just fundies and atheists. They are after just inverted versions of each other. By the way,are you having trouble finding a chat line for atheists? There must be some place you could share these concerns with people who actually care what you think,or don't. Try bickering with fundies, you'll love it. Anyway, this one is called "religion and spirituality."

No one will ever figure this out. If you are a true believer, you WILL go to heaven. That's the only thing I know of. Christians should leave atheists alone. I'm christian, and I don't bother them.

He may be benevolent, but He's not a doormat! It's not up to Him who goes to Heaven or Hell ... it's up to us. If you choose to go to Hell, He isn't going to violate your free will to do so.

Think of it this way. Sam's Club requires a fee to belong and it only lets members in, right? Members are people who have paid their fee. If you go up to the people at Sam's Club and say, "Gee, I don't want to pay the fee to belong, but I am really a nice person and I don't hurt anybody so why don't you just let me be a member too?" -- what do you think they would say? Do you think they would be right or wrong in the position they took?

A judge that is benevolent must still judge. A judge that allows his benevolence to usurp his judgment is not just.

God is benevolent. He allows people whole lifetimes to turn from sin and turn to Him. When they reject His gracious offer of eternal life, they must receive the punishment they are due.

People are not without excuse. They willingly choose to do evil. (Even "nice" people are not innocent.)
