christians do you know how to read the original text of the bible?

how many of you know the original text of the bible and can translate it? how many of you just follow the KJV because your to lazy to learn a new language and read the real text. how many of you blindly follow what an english prude translated into english?

does it matter if i know or not, don't try to skip around the question. pure and simple do the majority of christians know how to read the original text of the bible? regardless of what it may be.

mainly hebrew though.

shouldnt you know the original text of something you whole heartedly believe in? so you know what it really says? if you mainly follow what is written in a book you should know how to read the original text...

LOl Christians know the original language? Don't you think that your asking too much? Heck, gays are not even found in the original language if they read the original language they would have to stop hating gays.We know they are not capitable of that. Plus pastors would be out of work. Christians only believe what they are told to believe by pastors they never study it for themselves. Your asking too much from dumb sheep. BTW The interpretations do not match word for word cause the word homosexual was not in the original!!!

WOW, we're being a little hyper-critical aren't we.? Have you
learned ancient Hebrew and Aramaic and Greek? I doubt it.

not. When the Dead Sea Scrolls were unearthed in about
1950, their interpretation matched word for word to the
original Old English translations. I would suggest if you want
to investigate word for word, you will have to find the original
manuscripts and start translating and quit your criticizing
of some of the earth's most learned men.

Actually, I do know a bit of Greek for the New Testament and the Septuagint (the Greek Old Testament) but I don't know Hebrew yet.

Why should Christians be required to know the original languages? We have perfectly good language scholars who translate them very well. Why can't we rely on them?

And not all Christians exclusively use the King James Version. I don't. I read the Bible through three times a year on average, and I change the version each time. I actually "get" the ideas behind the original languages quite well as a result.

And as to your comment of laziness, I also speak Spanish and German. (My German used to be fluent.) Everyone has a gifting, and not everyone has either the will or desire (or wherewithal) to learn a new language.

I think it's a bit arrogant for you to demand it of others. As it is written: "Who are you to criticize someone else's servant? His own Lord will determine whether he stands or falls. And stand he will, because God is able to make him stand." (Romans 14:4)

I don't know why existance is so bad. Nobody knows. You must stop feeling sorry for yourself and focus on the positive things in your life. If you do this you will feel better. My child hood was terrible and much worse than you can imagine but I over came it the best I could.

The best I can understand the situation here is we are a part of nature just like the rest of life here. In nature the strong survive. Life is a challenge and you must be mentally and physically strong to survive. Exercise your body and mind and you will feel good. Humans are at the top of the food chain so be happy about that.

It's not wise or necessary to trust other people much. Most people will betray you if it's to their advantage. People have two faces. Put your confidence in yourself.

Apparently you are not an atheist but disappointed. I have a little background in science and I gave the situation much thought. I think god is a power full energy of which all things that exist are a part. The physical existence of god is through life that god created. Other words you are composed of gods energy that has been compressed to form matter. When you suffer god suffers. To please god do what you can to make yourself and others happy. Give of yourself to others and rejoice like it says in the bible. If you do this you will be happy and fell sorry for others that don't. Don't expect too much from other people though because there will allways be those that want to strike out and hurt you because of their missery.

I read large portions of the old testament in Hebrew. It is surprising how poor quality the translations into English are. Perhaps poor quality is not a good way to make the point that it is not possible to translate the Hebrew well into English. It is funny, actually, that so many people believe that their English translations of the bible, no matter how many they read, are worth anything, let alone the word of god. Of course, some people believe that the bible was written in English.

You must be referring to the question I wrote last week about this in which I encouraged believers to access the Hebrew and Aramaic versions of the OT & NT. Uh, and what different languages do you read, write, and speak fluently? How many do YOU translate from? And what makes you assume that Christians don't research and study the original manuscripts? I can't read Hebrew or Greek. I wish I could. I am a Christian but the older i get the more I realize I am not the authority on what God thinks. I know Christians give God a bad name sometimes and I apologize for that. I think the key in any religion is humility... knowing none of us really knows God's mind and just try to do what we think he wants from us. One thing that sticks out in my mine is in the Bible when Jesus says,"The most important commandments are to love God with all your heart, soul and mind and love your neighbor as yourself." Peace.

I am fluent in New Testament Greek. Written and spoken.

I failed Hebrew, but - I have a good lexicon and a well-worn copy of "Strongs" numerically-coded - so I get by.
