if she bites off big pieces take it away from her. Rawhide can soak up fluid and expand to be HUGE. If you want to test it out, put a bit of dry rawhide in water and let it soak for a while You'll be surprised how big it gets! That is what it does inside your dog.
Get them something better to chew on. You don't want to risk killing your pet. :) I give my dogs Nylabones.

My dog is a power-chewer, she's 10lbs fully grown but she can chew/eat the end off those large blue rubber/plastic bones in a few hours. The vet had never seen such a small dog do that and said to give her rawhide instead, but to make sure it was a rawhide proportional to her size and not to give them to her too often. He also said that the pencil-looking rawhides are better than the bone shaped ones and to get natural ones, not flavored or all that. We've been giving her a rawhide about twice a week for 2-3 years now and haven't had any problems.

Throw it away. Rawhide is a big cause of intestinal blockages and choking.
Throwing away the rawhide is cheaper than a several hundred dollar surgery to have it removed from her intestines.
Bully sticks are good alternative to rawhide. These are edible. Other ideas for chew toys would be a Kong stuff with treats. Mine will chew theirs for hours.
Another option, find a local butcher and get beef femur bones. All natural, and digestable. Don't bake them or boil them, just give to your dog fresh. Baking, boiling or any other type of cooking will make them a danger to your dog.
Raw bones=good
Cooked bones=bad

yeah, my dogs eat rawhide bones. If you are concerned with her choking on a large piece of it, then you should maybe take it away and get her something else. But rawhides are edible.

Rawhides are edible. They will turn soggy and icky and nothing you would want to knaw on, but your dog will love it! With that said, NEVER give your dog one when you are not around. For example, don't give one to your dog in her crate while your going to be gone. Actually, that is true for all chewies. Supervise in case they may choke, but none of my dogs have ever had a problem.

Be careful with that stuff, they can choke on it. I would not give my dog any of that rawhide stuff. I also saw on an vet show, where a a lab ate about two pounds of that stuff and they had to induce vomiting. I just think they are dangerous.

Rawhides are bad. They are hard for your dog to digest and could possibly get stuck. I wish they would quit selling them. I recommend nylabones. They have edible ones and not edibles. My doge love them.

not 100% digestible. risk of intestinal blockage w/things that can't be digested. unless you are supervising very closely, get something that is edible/digestible to keep her busy.
i've seen plenty of intestinal blockages w/rawhide that was too large to be digested, sat in the stomach or intestines and blocked everything up. surgery is not fun. even if it doesn't happen to most dogs, there is always the risk.

It could cause some digestion problems but what you are describing is totally normal, that's what raw hides do. I have three dogs, two little, one big and they all eat the raw hides, at the end there is none left. It's not good if you dog just eats the things whole and doesn't chew it at all. As long as you monitor it should be fine but if it worries you at all then give her something else.

Your dog loves rawhide chewies and that is normal. Please look at where the product is produced. If it is produced in India or China the product may be tainted by improper production methods. I only buy U.S.A . products for my Jack.
She loves a good chewie, it keeps her busy, and is fine as an occassional treat. Please do not rely on them as a denta-bone can be better to help with dental health. And please ask your vet what she thinks... Liz
