My Mamaw made it, My Mom, and now me.
You have to use a glass jar...Plastic makes it nasty.
I use the large glass jars with lids about a gallon or two
Put your Water in it, I use 7 Lipton tea bags and let it sit on the porch or in the window sill during the sunny part of the day until the tea is a deep brown, take it out and never squeeze the tea bags because it makes the tea bitter if you do. Add sugar to your sweetness level and enjoy. All of the women in my family make it that way and everyone loves it.

Southern Sweet Tea



Now it depends on how sweet you like it, but this is the way many southerners make their tea

Ingredients:
8-10 tea bags, any kind you like (although I highly recommend Luzianne or Lipton Iced Tea Brew)

Small pot of water, with a lid that fits well

1 cup of sugar (We use Splenda for sugar-free tea, it's delicious!)

1 gallon-sized pitcher (or a big pickle jar)

Directions:

Add sugar to water and bring to a boil over medium-high heat.

It doesn't matter how much water you boil; just make sure it gets really hot and bubbly. If you remembered to put the sugar in already, you're doing great. Now get your tea bags ready so that when the water comes to a boil you can just toss them in.

As soon as you get the tea bags in, the water may act like it's about to boil over. I usually just add the tea bags in with one hand, and then take the pot off the stove with the other. That way the hot bubbles have a chance to stir the tea up a bit, getting them off to a good brewing start.

Cover the pot and let the tea steep for as long as possible. It will be good in 20 minutes, but even better in an hour or two. Then pour the tea syrup (that's what it's actually called when made this way) into your gallon-sized pitcher and fill with water, making sure to gently squeeze the tea bags to get as much tea as possible into the water.

Well that's it, your Southern Sweet Tea is ready! Just pour into a glass (pretty canning jars are a southern favorite) filled with ice and serve. Some people will keep this in the fridge for several days, but unlike unsweetened tea, it's really only good for about 2 days. After that, it's time to make a fresh batch!

And yes, it's wonderful with a slice of lemon!!!

Boil 4 or 5 tea bags (we use Lipton) for about 5 min. It doesn't really matter how much water you use to boil it, just make sure that you add enough water at the end to make a gallon. The pot we use to boil it holds probably 12 cups of water... I always know its boiled long enough when it starts to get kinda foamy. Take the tea bags out but dont squeeze them cuz that makes it gross. Pour the tea into a gallon pitcher and add sugar, 1 cup is about right but use more if you like your tea sweeter. Once the sugar is disolved, add enough cold water to fill up the pitcher. Add ice or put it in the fridge until its cold.

Put two family size tea bags, into coffee maker, add 8 cups water, and brew. Pour tea into picture with 1 1/2 cups sugar.
Stir to melt the sugar. Then run 8 more cups water thru the coffee maker, using the same teabags, and pour that into the picture. Stir, Serve with Ice, then refridgerate remainder. Make sure your coffee pot and basket are both cleaned of coffee, b4 brewing your tea.

Use powdered Jamaica and a can of 7-up added to your tea. Also don't use water iced cubes. Put some of the tea into ice cube molds and add them to your tea.

2 qt. pitcher. 4 cup measuring cup glass, 8 t bags, put water in measuring cup, put t bags in. Put in microwave 5 minutes. Take out carefully. Pour into pitcher. Fill with water and ice. (add your own sweetener to hot mixture) I use natra taste. MMMM good.
