a lot of people feel the need to comfort themselves because they need a reason to live, they need to believe that there is life after death, and that there is a reason we were created. also they needed some kind of structure and morals in life. so thus christianity was born. also people who spoke english made up that word, i think christians forget sometimes that the king james bibles was translated from another language. i'd love to see a christian who reads the original text of a bible but they are to lazy to learn a different language...yet thier so called bible origniated from a different language...

Christos is Greek for Messiah, and means "Anointed One".
Jesus was anointed with the Holy Spirit. Christians are also anointed with the Holy Spirit.
They were first given the title disparagingly according to the book of Acts in the New Testament in Antioch in Syria. The initial preferred name for the faith in Christ was "the Way".

Christians could be called people "in Christ" but that makes no sense to unbelievers, so won't do. Also they are sons of God, but again that would be too hard to explain to outsiders to the New Covenant.

"I am the Way, the Truth and the Life, no-one comes to the Father except by me". John 14:6

Christian means "Little Christ" or "Christ Follower" depending on how you translate the word. It was actually a word created by non-believers to label those who believed in and followed Christ. Paul and Peter both talk about "Christians" in their Epistles as followers of the "Way" not the Truth. Not sure where you came up with that one.

Acts 11:26
and when he found him, he brought him to Antioch. So for a whole year Barnabas and Saul met with the church and taught great numbers of people. The disciples were called Christians first at Antioch.

The term was in effect a slur against believers, though it was adopted, in a sort of masochisitic way, as a term that Christians would call each other. Depending on the translation you use, Peter and Paul refer to other believers as Christians a couple of times in the New Testament.

Centuries before Roman Catholicism was even thought of it was used as a derogatory term used by the heathen in Antioch referring to Christ followers. This was the time of Paul, the Apostle, just after Jesus Christ was resurrected while some of his disciples still lived including Peter.

Acts 11:26

"26And when he had found him, he brought him unto Antioch. And it came to pass, that a whole year they assembled themselves with the church, and taught much people. And the disciples were called Christians first in Antioch."

The followers of Christ never gave themselves the title "Christian" but it was given to them as a taunt. Acts 11:26 "And when he had found him, he brought him to Antioch. So it was that for a whole year they assembled with the church and taught a great many people. And the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch."
"They were called Christians," that's what it says. It doesn't say that they called themselves Christians. What the outsiders were doing was taunting them by calling them "little Christs."
I long for the day when people who call themselves "Christians" start acting like "little Christs."

The "believers were first called Christians at Antioch". This is New TEstament scripture. It was written by the Apostles and disciples of Christ after HIS Death, burial, resurrection, and ascension into heaven. Jesus Christ was sinless yet HE was brutally tortured and murdered on the Roman Cross at Calvary. HE died for our sins. You and I both have an opportunity to be in Heaven with HIM if we accept HIS invitation. Are YOU a Christian?

Study these scriptures and see what you think. To become a Christian:
1. We must HEAR GOD’s WORD. - Romans 10:17 So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
2. We are told to BELIEVE. - To the Prison guard in Acts 16:31 Paul and Silas said, "Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household."
3. We must REPENT (turn from) of our sins. - Acts 17:30 Truly, these times of ignorance God overlooked, but now commands all men everywhere to repent.
4. We are told to CONFESS CHRIST before men. - Matthew 10:32 "Therefore whoever confesses Me before men, him I will also confess before My Father who is in heaven.
5. We are to enter the waters and BE BAPTIZED. - Mark 16:16 He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned.
6. We are told to CONTINUE TO BE FAITHFUL until death. - Revelation 2:10b Be faithful until death, and I will give you the crown of life.
Send me a note if you have questions. I am anxious to hear from you. Have a Great day.

Christians did not give themselves that name. The Jews and pagans called them "Christ followers" and eventually Christians.

And it came about that for an entire year they met with the church, and taught considerable numbers; and the disciples were first called Christians in Antioch.
Acts 11:26 (NASB77)

Believe it or not the word Christians was used in the Bible.
So what do you want us to call our selves? Christ followers? Little Christs? Well congrats, you've found the exact definition of a Christian

whoah, calm down. Jesus never said become "Christians", he said "take up your cross and follow me". The word Christian was used by non-believers to refer to those who believed in Jesus Christ.

Creationist is the name given to those who see science as supporting the bible rather than disproving it.

I know it can be frustrating to lack understanding, but you may be a happier person with an open mind.
