I bought a new Conia M580 dvd player - when I press play, pause or next on the remote control, it changes the channel on my set top box! They must be on the same frequency or something.

Next makes the channel go down 1 (e.g. from 4 to 3) and pause and play bring up the menu (channel 96) which interferes with anything I'm recording.

Does anyone know why this is happening, and if it can be fixed??

Thanks

This is rather rare. Looks like the set-top box and the DVD player use the same IR codes.

When you watch DVD movies, put a piece of dark tape (or block it with some paper) on top of the IR receiver of the set-top box, so the DVD remote does not interfere with the set-top box.

no it cannot be fixed, if its actually working for the DVD player WHILE doing the extra stuff to your set top box then its using the same signals. this is probably becuase its a cheap DVD player i presume and shares many codes that other companies use. i would suggest getting a new DVD player, a different brand so it doenst keep doing this to your set top box.

if however its not controling the DVD player while it is the set top box, then its probably a universal type of remote and you have STB (set top box) or some other function button pressed. if there are many buttons (DVD, TV, VCR) then try hitting DVD and seeing if that helps.
