I would die for atheism if it would teach others a lesson. If it was a Private death under torture something like Spanish Inquisition. Yes i would lie and say i think God is real.
persecuted...... No not really ... but there are a lot of misconceptions like that i am a bad person just because i am an Atheist. I def.... do no like the fact that an Atheist would not get elected for office.

okay I know I probably shouldn't post since I am Jewish not atheist but I wouldn't die for my religion unless I absolutely had to for some reason. I wouldn't just go "hey I am gonna die no reason at all" For atheists there is no G*D no after life, no faith or belief in religion or G*D. After this life is over everything is over! So why would any atheist want to do that???? As for Jews we have been persecuted for our beliefs and we are still strong. But than we have faith in G*D and our ancestors and our beliefs.
By the way why is it that the religions that have the largest number of believers must knock other peoples' concepts or thoughts. Why must it always be your way or the high way???? Maybe you should think about that.
Buh-bye!!!

I don't know, because i've never been in that situation. I'd probably do like lexusmoon: If saving my life would negatively impact on other people, then i'd hold fast, otherwise i'd praise Whichever imaginary god they presume to speak for until i'm safe.
I don't feel persecuted (and i'd like to keep it that way), but i do feel slighted when theists assume things about me, or worse, speak on my behalf.
I also feel somewhat threatened by some evangelical Xians who are trying their damnedest to get their religion into government, even as they lie about the positions of atheists and the ACLU. (Example lie #1: that we want to remove religion from the public view. Very few atheists favor that, and the ACLU would certainly refuse such a case.) When they tell lies about us, they make us look unreasonable, and use false-dilemma psychology to drive a duped public to favor their theocratic agenda. I believe that any government measures to approve religion threaten the liberty of believers and non-believers alike.
Having lived a spoiled, easy life in the Yoo Ess of A, i really have no way of imagining how much discomfort it would take for me to deny that i have no faith/belief.
@Serenity, i'd appreciate it very much (and so would the others, i'm sure) if you not speak for us. To be blunt, you don't know what you're talking about. Another irony. Mistyfan69 gave a disclaimer (which i appreciate), yet she actually knows where most of us stand.

That is kind of like asking if I would be willing to die for my belief in gravity. It makes no sense. There is no 'cause' it is not a religion.
No, I do not feel persecuted.
I do not see any reason to go through discomfort for my 'beliefs'. I am willing to discuss them with people and to have people try to give me good reasons to believe in something else - in fact maybe life would be much easier if I did have a book with all the rules and answers in, so in that sense I guess there may be some discomfort there.
I do not understand why people insist on treating atheism like a religion. It makes no sense. Why do I keep expecting sense?

I don't make it a point to tell people any more, but I have
We have no faith. The question is pointless.
It is the lack of belief, not a belief in and of itself. There is no reason at all to kill or die or suffer for it. The religious are the ones that think that is a good thing. I would have no problem saying that I believed this or that to escape. That could not change what I really thought though.

Although what I believe, or rather, don't believe, is important to me, it isn't more important than my life. I wouldn't convert, but I would lie, if it would save my life; I'm not stupid.
I don't feel persecuted, just misunderstood.
How much discomfort am I willing to go through? Well, I'm not willing to lose my home or my opportunity at a real career. As far as family and friends go, I love them, but you can't pick your family and you can't lie to them your whole life, and if your friends don't accept you when they find out you're an atheist, they aren't really your friends.

an atheist doesn't have a god to believe in, nor a belief - so what would we die over? i don't feel persecuted because i don't have guilt over what i believe in.
again, faith is a religious conciseness and atheism is a lack of whatever your religion is. and no i have no discomfort in knowing there is no god, and that most religions are silly and somewhat stupid at some level. most are made up depending who the chief is.
and to die for what you believe in - it's a pretty dumb notion, and it leads to senseless violence and wars.

My views are not within the same area that those of religious people's are. I really have no feeling of needing to "die for my belief," what would be the point in that, it wouldn't be protecting anything or trying to be honorable to anything.
I just take and try to ignore whatever "discomfort" I get...I mean it's not like I can just up and change my views.

Why would i, i wouldn't feel the need to prove what I believe in. No I don't feel persecuted, I don't persecute you and those who persecute aren't worth my time. I dont need faith or belief to fill the "void" in my life. I am happy with who I am and with what I got...
although there still might be some interconnecting force between us all... DNA, Genetics, all the science...

You can't really convince me though. Already thought things through, and sticking to my opinions. So... I won't mind dying for the fact that there's no God. But I DO believe in reincarnation though.
Well, I feel a bit intimidated and misunderstood at school. Like, some people in my school think that Atheists are narrow-minded and will never understand. But really, I'm just convinced about what I see.
