It is a low carb diet and here is why it causes weight loss:

Carbs are the primary fuel source for the brain and nervous system. In addition, it is the ONLY fuel source for the red blood cells and the kidneys.

When you deprive your body of them, your body has to break down protein from muscle to make the carbs (gluconeogenesis) for these vital functions. The kidneys have to work overtime (while low on fuel) to flush out the uric acid which is the end result of deaminated proteins. The loss in muscle and water accounts for most of the weight loss on the atkins diet. Any real fat loss is because cutting carbs is essentially cutting calories.

It is stressful on the kidneys and the risks include hypoglycemia, gout, dehydration, electrolyte depletion, and constipation.

Go on: http://www.atkins.com/articles/nutritional-approach.
The Atkins Nutritional Approach, popularly known as the Atkins Diet or just Atkins, is the most marketed and well-known of the low-carbohydrate diets. It was adopted by Dr. Robert Atkins in the 1960s from a diet he read in the Journal of the American Medical Association and utilized to resolve his own overweight condition following medical school and graduate medical training. After successfully treating over ten thousand patients, he popularized the Atkins diet in a series of books, starting with Dr. Atkins' Diet Revolution in 1972. In his revised book, Dr. Atkins' New Diet Revolution, Atkins updated some of his ideas, but remained faithful to the original concepts.

The Atkins franchise (i.e., the business formed to provide products serving people "doing Atkins") has been highly successful due to the popularity of the diet, and is considered the iconic and driving entity of the larger "low-carb craze". However, various factors have led to its dwindling success and the company, Atkins Nutritionals of Ronkonkoma, New York, founded by Dr. Atkins in 1989, two years after the death of the founder filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in July of 2005 and re-emerged in January 2006. The Atkins logo is still highly visible through licensed-proprietary branding for food products and related merchandise.

The Atkins diet is a low carbohydrate (carbs) diet. Carbs are complicated sugars found in things like bread and grains. By cutting these carbs out of your diet, you lose weight. HOWEVER, the weight that you loose is, for the most part, is entirely water weight, and not fat. Water and carbs usually hang out with each other in your body (to put it simply) and when you get rid of your carbs, you get rid of the water that hangs around with it, and this is not good for you. Also, when you stop the diet, you gain even more water weight than you had when you started the diet. I suggest not going on the Atkins diet

Good Luck

Okay I've done both so ... To start with for those who've most effective misplaced 5 lbs in a single month on a vegetarian food regimen you most likely haven't been exercising and/or you've taken in too many calories. Simply since it's non carnivorous does not imply its low calorie. Now as for ATKINS run....Don't do it. I suggestion I was so shrewd and so did the entire people I convinced to head on Atkins motive I misplaced 29 lbs in a month, however... Now not handiest did the load come proper back the minute I obtained back to the real world and ate a number of carbs. But I received again more, plus I became a B*tch while on this eating regimen. CRANKY!!! And it was once sooooo rough to concentrate as your brain has no power as a result of the dearth of carbs. It can be so bodily unhealthy too. It used to be fun for the first couple of days, Francis Bacon, cheese, steaks, salmon, nuts... AKA fat fats fats fats fat fats...Then you definately begin to believe like a pan of oil. Makes me ill recalling this food regimen. How about adding a little lean protein to the veggie diet and endeavor the weight off, then you'll be able to have a firm toned physique.

Basically the atkins diet believes in consuming straight protein over carbs. You can't eat bread, pasta, cereals, cake, starches and certain veggies. Now I know people that tried it and lost weight, but you can plateau and gain it back. Another reason that it gets criticism is that since it involves a diet full of proteins (bacon, eggs, nuts, peanut butter, meat, etc.) that it can raise your cholesterol because there's a lot of fatty foods in the protein section as well. But now there's a lot of low carb friendly items on the market. If you don't want to be on a strict diet as such, i would recommend eating whole grain breads, protein bars, lean meat and poultry, fresh and raw veggies and fruits, cooking with any oil other than veggie oil, and lots and lots of water. If you refer to the food pyramid, that might help you, and maintain portion control to actually see what a serving of certain foods look like, and staying away from buffets and eating out, and fast foods pack on the punds really fast.

That Atkins diet is easily found on the web and the book is in bookstores. To find out about it do some research. It is not a magical weight loss cure and not easy to follow for most people.

While the Atkins diet plan sounds very attractive—who wouldn't want to lose 15 pounds in 3 weeks?—it can also be very restrictive and regimented. Soon, you are cutting out entire food groups and what used to be part of everyday living—eating—becomes a full-scale war between "good" and "bad" foods. More importantly, essential nutrients that can prevent chronic diseases, like those found in fruits, vegetables and dairy, are forbidden or severely restricted on programs like the Atkins diet plan.

It's basically a super low carbohydrate diet. To do it, just don't eat carbs (rice, pasta, bread, etc.). For breakfast, have eggs and bacon and sausage. For lunch have a hunk of any type of meet and veggies. Dinner do the same. For this diet its better to have a pound of red meat rather than a bowl of whole wheat pasta. it'll help you lose weight for now, but its not good for long. it's better to have a balanced diet. But most people can't last long on it anyway cause carbs are awesome!!
