to be in love with a girl, but not want to date her? I've seen this phenomena before and I don't quite understand it. Does it mean he really does want to be with her but is wimping out over making it official, or that he never wants to be in a relationship? Please don't say it means he doesn't love her, because that possibility has already been outruled.

Yes I think it is possible. Of course we don't know much about you but just one example would be if you are really shy. In that case you wouldn't feel comfortable asking her out. Another case would be where there is some type of pressure from your friends not to date her such as if you're in the cool crowd and she's not.
It's also possible that you might like more than one girl and you know that once you express your feelings to this one girl then you won't have all your choices open anymore.

sure...it's possible for weird, twisted , messed up guys to be in love with a girl but not want to date her.
A possibility is he does not feel he can date her. He has no money to go out on a date, for example. Or has family problems. Or a bad rash.
