could be any number of things.
allergic reaction to chemicals, fake fingernails, new products,
medications. a vitamin deficiency. fungus. stress.
you should go and see a doctor.

i have known peoples figernails to come loose and fell off if they have traped them in a car door they normally go bruised and swell alot first

u may have hurt it resently and damaged bloodsupply 2 it doon't worry it will grow back..
