Whats your take on eating better for weight loss. What is most important? cutting calories ? or cutting carbs ? Now looking at fast food, a typical Macdonald's meal contains about 1500 calories and say 60 grams of carbs, won't even mention the bad fat count. This is what i'm used to eating everyday as it is convenient. I tried a few frozen Smart Ones meals from grocery store, very delicious!, 250 calories, 40g. carbs. This seems like a much smarter choice for me, even if I eat a small snack with it compared to the fast food meals. Should I be more worried about cutting the calorie intake or the carb intake ? For sure I will cut the damn fast food intake, (unbelievable). How fast do you predict I could loose weight by these kind of changes ?

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter your stats, take 300-400 calories off that number and that's how much you need to lose weight.
5-8servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water a day
5-6 small meals instead of 3 big ones (breakfast is the most important - make sure to get complex carbs like whole wheat bread, oatmeal, fruit etc)
4-6 times a week cardio for 30-50min, light weight training, many reps
no junk food, no sodas, no alcohol, no white flour (cakes, cookies, white bread, pasta etc.), nothing high in sugar (ice cream)

this is a simple formula folks. first, you burn a certain amount of calories per day. you take in a certain amount. depending on muscle mass and activity level, your body processes foods differently than another person might. there aren't alot of alternatives for losing weight other than the tried and true formula, no matter carbs, protein or what. you consume less calories than you expend. some foods will feed muscle better, branch chain amino acids, meats, beans with rice, etc. carbs are a valid, necessary energy food, you will not function effectively in the long run without them. however, in excess they can cause water retention. when you cut them out, you don't retain water and you tend to look leaner at first. but carbs serve a purpose and you need them in your diet. it's all fuel. exercise, eat balanced meals and eat less than you burn, you WILL lose weight. you will also look and feel better than if you cut out a food group. drastic eating habits over a time lead to deficiencies.

cut carbs. thats what i always look at- calories mean nothing to me...carbs are those nasty little things that sit in your belly and turn into sugar and excess of that...turns into fat (whatever isnt burned- by excersize and what not) its good to have 6 smaller meals a day because this increases your metabolism...which helps you burn those carbs instead of one or three regular or big meals...this just keeps your stomach large and wanting more! the less you eat at a time the smaller your stomach will get, making you hungry for only so much at a time...but be careful not to start eating alot again...and cutting out fast food and soda is a must and very good idea!!
